We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
... the really interesting issue is how scares so easily become exploited by regulators to pursue their specific interests – in what we came to call the doctrine of the "beneficial crisis" - and how slow people are to recognise the dynamic. This, with huge amusement we see in a WUWT post, where there is this observation:
What really strikes us is the fact that all this Copenhagen/Cancun stuff has nothing to do with the Climate, or saving the World. It's about political positioning, money, and plain old fascism cult promotion.
Well, you don't say! And if this is not a recognition of "Ursine subarboreal toilet activity" of the type identified by Dellers, I don't know what is.
The odd thing though is that so many of the clever little politics wonks you meet don't understand the scare dynamic either. They either ignore the scares or take the so-called scientific agenda at face value. They rarely appreciate that the "scare" or "beneficial crisis" is a means of institutional queue-jumping, a means of by-passing institutional inertia and democratic processes.
As always, look at a scare and you will find that science is only the dressing. At the heart, you will find it's the politics stoopid. It always is.
Ever since travel restrictions to Cuba were relaxed by the Obama administration, more people from the U.S. are traveling to Cuba making the this country one of the regime's largest source of tourists and subsequently tourist dollars second only to Canada.
I've seen that sign somewhere - can't remember where though.
"Wind/solar scam market" - I find it interesting that wind and solar projects are languishing and/or in their dath throes.
A few years back, a company called Ocean Power Delivery (now called Pelamis Wave Power) wanted to put four of these machines off shore at Point Judith, RI as a demonstration project producing 3 megawatts of power - enough to supply a good portion of the power needs for Point Judity and surrounding areas. No money from the Feds or State - just private money wanting to use a completely natural energy resource in an area known for constant wave activity in a test proof-of-concept project.
A lot of people objected to Palamis's proposal including my fishing club. Town and State had more objections than you could shake a stick at never mind all the negative commentary from the fishing community and the general public. The project was never started.
Flash forward to 5 years ago - windmills, Federal/State money, grants, blah, blah, blah - lobbyists from manufacturers (a Danish firm and GE) pushed the projects through the legislature, etc. Now there ugly windmills.
It is pretty obvious that there was (or maybe even still is) a lot of money behind bogus "climate science" and renewable energy sources. And it would seem that those who want to invest with private money are being frozen out of the system by taxpayer money.
Until we get the governments out of the climate change and renewable energy business, we ain't never gonna get off of fossil fuels.
And since some of the above touches on the climate issue, here's this:
I just heard on Rush's show, regarding something said by Lord Christopher Monckton (brilliant British climate-change skeptic) about the closed-door Cancun negotiations. He said (according to Rush; I haven't found other confirmation yet) that on the table is a proposal for the USA to send 1.5% of GDP yearly to the U.N., ostensibly to fight "climate change."
#1 This infuriates me
#2 This scares the crap out of me
#3 Who has the authority to do something like this?! Is it executive order? Is congress going to vote on it?! WTF?!!!
It's evidently not a done deal, but I'll put nothing past these bastards in power.
Not to mention, of course, that the whole global warming/climate change thing is a discredited scam and yet the world continues to use it for selfish purposes.
