Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

public school teachers....choose private schools for their own children.
Probably true for most of the reasons listed, but in our case, and in particular because we adopted four kids, it was better to send them to private school for different reasons. For one thing, each of them came with a lot of baggage and we could tailor their social/family therapy along with a more accepting learning environment. We needed to highly modify their educational plan because they were at all different levels of learning, but as they progressed, we and their teachers needed to be flexible as they progressed quickly - and they did progress quickly. These are all issues and concepts a public school, including charter schools, can't handle properly. So in a way, yes the public school system technically "failed" to provide proper education for our children, but then again, they aren't designed or equipped to handle the numerous problems of kids like ours had. Eventually, they surpassed grade level and by the 8th grade were ready for high school. With one exception, they went to public high school - the other went to private military academy because that's what he wanted to do with his life. The one thing the article didn't mention was how many of these teachers used religious or church oriented schools. Around here in the Quiet Corner of CT, we have several non-denominational church operated schools and Catholic/Christian schools. By the way, the link was broken. I had to find it via Google. 202 224 3121
--the Senate switchboard "Please vote No on S-510, so I don't have to vote Yes on your replacement" Just tried to reach Sen Lautenberg from NJ to leave a message voicing opposition to S 510 and the mail box was full. Kind of ironic that the mail box was full.
Please stop passing laws I will ignore. You are voting yourself into irrelevance and our nation into anarchy and arbitrary law enforcement.

Super Genius Harry Reid tripped up yet again by that bothersome Constitution on S. 510 I taught high school for seven stressful months. We homeschool our daughter.
PS, Monsanto had a hand in this bill, there is some FDA high deputy with revolving door Monsanto, civil service, Soros' Open Society Institute cross um, fertilization --Monsanto ends up with the rights to the seeds, and Soros is Monsanto's second-largest shareholder, with some 1.3 million shares, recently purchased as this bill rose toward the floor.

And, as it happens, she is a card carrying member of the Democratic Socialists of America. And the nauseatingly familiar playbook --find a victim, then go in close and personal, and make opposition to the bill into cruelty to the image of the suffering victim, whose face is life-size on your tube, the image as always skipping the intellect completely and going straight into the limbic brain.
But the nerve of these people! The shocking gall! (not so smart)
The writer is wrong and Obama is right. You can say "My being President," as the writer wants; or Obama's "Me being President," which is also correct. As in Latin, in English the subject of non-finite verbs is in the objective case, an interesting and not often taught fact. It would be foolish for him to deny it. (another example) Him denying it would be foolish. His denying it would be foolish. All correct. The latter two have a slight semantic difference, the objective form being broader. "It must be Christmas:"
The Smithsonian presents the art admired and created by our best and brightest, our most creative and insightful thinkers and artists. It's our civilization. If it wasn't the people wouldn't vote for it. "The Admin looks pathetic with these Wiki leaks."
Yes, it is embarrassing but, having read the comments in that link, I noticed everything seemed to have become "Obama's fault". Folks: reality check. These leaks could have occurred on anybody's watch. And, short of direct "executive action" against Assange, any US administration would be equally powerless to act. We're all nuts." Eww, nuts, I hate nuts. How can anybody eat those things? Ha! When you say local, and I am in agreement with you, you must also acknowledge the sad state of public schools in places such as Mississippi, Louisiana, etc. The very liberal and caring white people with college degrees and who live in those states hardly ever send THEIR children to public schools.
Open the doors to charter schools, give the tax relief for private school tuition and then make damn sure the Republicans set out their own investigating certification teams. The corruption among the liberals in education is beyond excuses--but, the cowardice among the conservatives has given them free rein to do as they please. It's your call folks! "These people are insane."
Quite the contrary, they know exactly what they're doing: destroying the United States' population's ability to fend for itself, making everyone eternally dependent on the federal government and thus subject to whatever the federal government demands of them in terms of servitude. Too late, they passed the d--n food bill. Just waiting for Obama's rubber stamp.
I am getting so frustrated with all this gov't control, and I can't see it ending well. If they come for my garden, they better come heavy. There will be a firefight.
I'll hit them with a stick!
(Can't afford guns right now, but they're on my wish list.) Taking over of the food system is just one more step. Read this interview with Stanley Kurtz, author of Radical-in-Chief, then follow up on the You Tube coverage of Obama's quotes as noted in the second comment following Kurtz' interview.
http://frontpagemag.com/2010/11/30/radical-in-chief-2/ There IS a plan. As one who has encountered Obama since the mid-80s, I really believe this guy is dangerous. Just skimming the details, this thing violates the Forth, Fifth, Sixth, Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments.
Why not the other 4? Maybe make it a crime to speak against this law. Outlaw gun ownership by farmers. Quarter soldiers in our homes to do the inspections. And sue seed owners in civil court without juries. Lazy Congress critters could have gone for the whole hog. I was somewhat wrong above, re: all it needs is Obama's signature. It still has to go through reconciliation (negotiation to match the senate and house bills, for those of you from Rio Linda), so we still have a chance to defeat it, IF reconciliation can be delayed until the new Republican majority is seated.
Problem is, the Dems really want this bad, as it gives the government another huge control of our lives and livelihoods. Monsanto Company (Monsanto), along with its subsidiaries, is a provider of agricultural products for farmers. The Company's seeds, biotechnology trait products, and herbicides provide farmers with solutions that improve productivity, reduce the costs of farming, and produce better foods for consumers and better feed for animals. It manages business in two segments: Seeds and Genomics, and Agricultural Productivity. In April 2010, the Company completed the acquisition of a corn and soybean processing plant located in Paine, Chile from Anasac, a company that provides seed processing services. In October 2009, the Company completed the acquisition of Seminium, S.A. (Seminium), a corn seed company.
