We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Cut the civilian Federal workforce by 75%.
Replace federal retirement plans with 401K’s (for politicians and bureaucrats).
Eliminate Departments of Labor, Education, and Commerce.
So long TSA.
End all state revenue sharing and block grants.
Enact a flat / no deductions tax code and fire most of the IRS.
Cut Congressional and White House staffs and retirements.
Congressional terms limited to 3 and Senatorial terms limited to 2. No pensions.
Eliminate Dept. of Energy (Labor, Education, & Commerce were already mentioned) and EPA.
I prefer a sales tax and firing most of IRS.
End all subsidies (especially farm and industrial).
Sell oil, gas, and mineral leases.
Phase out welfare and entitlement programs and institute generous tax rebates for donations to truly charitable causes.
Outlaw public sector unions, reduce pensions.
Sell much of the Federal land in Alaska, Nevada, etc.
Repeal Corporate income tax.
Obviously not all are immediately revenue generating, but in time they would likely be. Even if not, we would still be a lot freer.
I find it interesting that the major cuts were to the military which is one of the few constitutional mandates to the federal government AND Social Security and Medicare which are paid for by a directed tax. But there were NO cuts to welfare which is unarguably unconstitutional anyway and it is 100% a drain on the taxpayers. The federal welfare system is intentionally spread out over numerous cabinet level departments and then within those departments it is dispersed amongst many organizations. This all makes it difficult to evaluate what it costs us. But estimates are that about $1 trillion a year for the federal government alone with another $1 trillion amongst all the states. Of that $2 trillion dollars about 20% goes directly or indirectly to illegal aliens. Another 15%-20% is directly lost to fraud wast and abuse.
If I were cutting the budget I would fire the 300,000 federal workers who administer the many welfare programs and I would end the program over a 5 month period by cutting all payments by 20% each succeeding month until it was zero. That's it folks, the gravy train has stopped.
This would leave enough money so that our old people who put into Social Security all their lives could retire and our military that protects us in this dangerous world wouldn't be dismantled.
