Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

And why not quit categorizing us by skin tone and eye shape? We're beyond that form of racism. When we read about California schools limiting the numbers of Asians they accept, one realizes that this is all absurd. Furthermore, is my friend from Spain Hispanic? Is Obama white or black? Time to end this nonsense. Obama: U.S. can't afford two years of gridlock Yes We Can. Krauthammer agrees that the election was just a return to the norm. A quote:

Moratorium on geoengineering. Does that include a stop on "carbon sequestration", "CO2 storage", and other AGW inspired madness?
The US indeed can't afford 2 years of gridlock. It needs to reverse the damage O'Bummer has done sooner than that. It's very low-class of Krauthammer not to name PJ O'Rourke.
I don't know what will undo the shafting of the GM and Chrysler bondholders.
There's no commercial law anymore. Anything might happen to the senior debt you want to sell; so in short you can no longer sell senior debt at senior debt rates. The problem is that now the only thing we can afford is gridlock. The money's gone.
Bird Dog,
I enjoyed your post on Minorities In College so much that I commented on the article, as follows: *** Government education is THE problem. My wife just retired after 20 years as a Principal in California. I see the rot in public schools, but unlike most I don't think unions are the primary cause. Yes, they are thoroughly corrupt, but so is the whole public education system. Every parent should be made to pay a significant part of the cost of their child's education; preferably all of it. The entitlement system of apparently "free" public education changes parents' attitude from "You had better get good grades young lady, because I am paying for your schooling," to: "Your school is failing to educate my Precious! It's your fault she hasn't been made to turn in her homework." I heard almost those exact words at a recent Board meeting. Bah! Why even bother to discuss it? It is a systemic failure, and the band-aid solutions proposed are just so much pablum. Hispanics, Blacks, and Whites would close the achievement gap if their hard-earned money had to go directly toward educating their child. Instead, equality of results rules government education. Much of the money is completely wasted, as so-called educators with abysmal writing, spelling and math skills keep both front feet firmly planted in the public trough, sucking up six figure incomes, plus benefits far in excess of what they would be paid in a comparable private sector job. Government schools are rife with incompetent and lazy teachers. But just try to get one fired, for the good of the children and society. Good luck with that. It took my wife four years, and countless hours to get a teacher fired for repeatedly hitting middle school kids in front of multiple witnesses, and she had to fight the District as well as the union the whole time. In the far-Left leaning government education industry, sufficient change will never happen. The system has been gamed, and the welfare of both the child and of society are far down on the priority list, well below compensation, job security and PAC interests, and all fueled by the incessant water cooler politics endemic in top-heavy school districts. Worse, there is a too-cozy relationship between unions and administrators, which would result in federal Labor Board charges if it occurred in the private sector. I say this as a former statewide elected union official. So I might as well enjoy my relatively young wife's fat lifetime pension and benefits at someone else's expense, and watch helplessly as mediocrity consumes the formerly great U.S.A. OT a little.
A friend of my daughter applied to UCLA decades ago and decided to identify herself as American Indian (or maybe Native American, whatever the term was at the time). She was accepted sight unseen in that category. Her parents were Swedish. I never knew or cared if she would have been admitted anyway. She was bright and probably would have sailed right through. The point is that no one ever checked her admission form in any way or asked her again. She went to UCLA and on rare occasions got literature from Native American student groups. Obama is completely correct the USA cannot afford two years of gridlock. I expect the House to pass and the Senate to pass and Obama to sign bills abolishing the National Endowments for the Humanities, and the Arts; to defund the U.N. and all other international organizations; to abolish the Departments of Energy and Education; to cease funding CPB & PBS; etc. Obama is the only one with the stature to persuade the Democrat party that 80 years of plundering America must cease! (Only Nixon can go to China!)

I'll believe it's a crisis when the people who tell me it's a crisis start acting like it's a crisis. Glenn Reynolds (Greenie): We must do something about manmade CO2!!! (Engineer): OK, stop blocking adoption of Nuclear power then. (Greenie): NO! But we must do something about manmade CO2!!! Use windmills/waves, and solar! (Engineer): But windmills waves and solar aren't adequate to our needs of when AND where power is needed. (Greenie): We must do something about manmade CO2!!! (Engineer): OK, let's try making changes to the environment so that CO2 is sucked out of the air. (Greenie): NO! But we must do something about manmade CO2!!! (Engineer): ... Wunder of wonders me thinks Anchoris is comin' around and may some day be a Republican.
She makes point, Missy Sarah is a shrill shrewish woman who needs stay home and learn to raise her children well. Talking ain't walking, Sarah. "Is Obama white or black? " Obama is half Donkey and half honkie.
