We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I just got back from moderating the first hour and a half at the polls. Lots of enthusiasm from the right - people I haven't seen in years at town committee meetings. We're a Republican enclave up here in the Quiet Corner anyway, but still - this was unusual this early in the morning.

I have to go back for the 11 am to 3 shift so I'll report back - see if voting stays this strong.

Just heard from the other moderator - she said if the voting keeps up at this pace we could top 90% participation of all registered voters in town.

That ain't never happened in all my years here.

I voted here in NC at about 8:30. The polls were not crowded but all the desks (we use paper ballots - thank God!) were full and a few were waiting.

I voted for every Pubbie individually rather than straight ticket. I had to remind myself that this was a mid term. I kept looking for more people to vote for!

He faults The Won properly, but then there are all those references to

Obama's about to get the bloody nose because he has spit or pissed on some part of traditional America nearly every day of his 1/2 term as President.

It's far more than just not sharing the same values.

These perps obviously need mosques raided, arms confiscated, muhammadans eradicated and children converted to true religion but that won't happen in Obama's Iraq.

Syrian Catholic Patriarch Ignace Joseph III Younan was in Canada when the blasts occurred. In an e-mail to Catholic News Service Nov. 1 while he was en route to Baghdad, he criticized the lack of security for Christian places of worship and called on "Iraqi parties to overcome their personal and confessional interests and look for the good of the Iraqi people who have elected them."

"There are a few churches and Christian institutions left in Baghdad, not so great a number that it is not unreasonable for them to be protected, security-wise," he said, noting that the security being provided by the government is "far less than what we have hoped for and requested."

"Christians are slaughtered in Iraq, in their homes and churches, and the so-called 'free' world is watching in complete indifference, interested only in responding in a way that is politically correct and economically opportune, but in reality is hypocritical," said the patriarch, who served as bishop of the New Jersey-based Syrian-rite diocese in the United States and Canada from 1995 until his election as patriarch in 2009.
