Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

My brother's back yard

My brother took this snap off his back porch in CT yesterday morning. His attached email suggested "Hope you all will host T'giving again this year."


Yes, we will. It's usually 20 or so people, meaning two turkeys. One in the oven, the other on the grill.

Ha ha, turkeys are taking over everything. This year at the Seppofarm there were two separate flocks, one started out at eighteen turks, the other had more than twenty. Not counting the couple of poults foolish enough to think if they just hunkered down in the hay that brown huntin' dog would never find them...

They are everywhere this year, it was a much better year for turkeys than for venison, whose numbers seem to be off, while the bears are still on the upswing.

I saw six deer in a herd in my front yard yesterday. Four adults and two yearlings.

Plenty of turkey buzzards by me but no turkeys yet. Deer everywhere - the herd is growing by leaps and bounds. Seeing much deeper into the center of town than ever before. Foxes on the rise - red and grey. Raccoons and opossum seem to be having off years. Plenty of raptors but with the exception of osprey and red-tails, I can't tell 'em apart.

Yes, have fried turkeys and wild duck also. Not convinced it's worth the trouble.

Turkey on the grill comes out great, and slightly smoked (I add fruit tree wood chunks to the charcoal).
