Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Smart Art

Pretty funny.


Here's some art: This is Truth and Repentance, a detail from Botticelli's allegorical The Calumny of Appelles. Interestingly, this was Sandro's last secular painting. He became a Renaissance reborn Christian. How that happened I do not know.

He sure met some pretty girls before he 'converted.' This young lovely is very reminiscent of Botticelli's Venus. Whatdo you think, Bird Dog?

The Botticelli's in the Gardner Museum just glow, the colors are amazing. Reproductions just don't capture the experience.

It's true. Seems that his "conversion" was sincere, though -- so Savanarola didn't just scare him, he really did scare the bejeesus out of him.

Me pastors tell conversion is a process.

However, yall have hit upon a vernacular anomaly, me thinks.

If'n Bottecelli were reborn Christian, as Bird Dog suggests, him had got bejesus scared into him.

Many Renaissance artists became Christians, in contradiction to the historic meme that the Renaissance was a turn towards humanism. The more I read about the times and the artists then, the more I see the lie to that theory.

Da Vinci, Caravaggio, Botticelli - all converts. Man may have been the visual measure, but he was further recognized as being the Imago Dei by these artists. More proof that you have to read history for yourself, especially in these days.
