We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Why not call it "weather"?

White House wants to change the alarm to "climate disruption."


When people keep changing the name of something, you have to wonder What's up? Like, maybe there is no global warming now. But there is still weather of all sorts to get all excited about - especially in New England where the climate is "disrupted" constantly: See this charming 1876 speech by Mr. Samuel Clemems.


As for me, I hate boring weather. I enjoy disruptive weather.


BTW, I think Holdren is insane.

Climate and weather are constantly disruptive. It's necessary to the water cycle, the ocean currents, and everything else to which life on earth has adapted. There is no evidence -- there has never been any evidence -- that climate is being disrupted in the last 100 years or so. We've had periods of difficult weather and periods of mild weather in all parts of the globe at times.
The AGW gang tried to claim that global warming caused both extreme heat events and extreme cold events, both dry periods and wet periods. Any year will have those events, so it was like saying AGW caused the sun to rise in the east. Now that the data have made the whole "warming" doubtful, the same gang tries a new label. I hope it fails.
Holdren does appear to be a fool. I don't think he's actually insane, as in losing contact with his environment. I think he's just an educated idiot. But then, he works for one.

I worry about what Holdren is occupying his time with these days. Whatever it is, it'll be secret, and we're not gonna like it...meanwhile, SEIU's pres steps down, joins board of biowarfare specialist SIGA.

Thanks for pointing out Clemens' speech.

If he were alove today, I wonder what Clemens' would think/write about the politicians we have?

He would think and write that they are a bunch of lying crooks, just as we do, and just as he did about the politicians of his day. But he would be far and away wittier than we.

Geoff Brown and buddy larsen ... I like the way you think, gentlemen. The earth is a living organism, whatever one wants to call it, although Gaia and other sentimental nicknames are a little 'twee' for me. Jules Crittenden said last year or mebbe two years ago, "the earth gets warmer, the earth gets colder, and nobody quite knows why."

Of course, a lot of people think they do, and I would be perfectly willing to let them have their crazy ideas, if they didn't want to beggar our fragile economy, empty the pockets of our overburdened taxpayers, and make my "sunset years" into a mortal storm. And take over still another section of our battered free market system while they're doing it.

The "inconvenient truth" is that I hate Al Gore's overweening ego and his inability to suck it up and take his lumps like a man.

"Climate disruption" -- that's lovely. But the course of true climate ne'er did run smooth.
