We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Just kidding. We would never post a "Name This Bird" this easy to answer. Among many interesting and enjoyable experiences this past weekend was getting this close to a Red Tail who was hunting the marsh edges at the Mass. Audubon in South Wellfleet. Pocket camera, no telephoto:
There are no less than four magnificent red-tails at the Seppofarm this year, and two red shoulders as well. They call frequently, and seem to have accommodated the others' presence pretty well to the same area. It's unusual for so many to be that close together.
There are still lots of little critters for them to feed on, as foxes seem scarce. I blame the coyotes for the absence of foxes.
And there are more turkeys than I have seen in years, there were two dozen of them in the back yard last week. So many that the dog wasn't sure which one to chase first.
