We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

BD, what is daunting to you?
Have you seen any 9mm flesh wounds?
All handgun calipers are pretty daunting to me.

A 12 ga sawed off shotgun is daunting to me. 9 mm is just a bee sting - if the evil-doer is lucky enuf to even hit.

An interesting set of bumper stickers to find on a Prius. Possible explanations:
1. Somebody like me did this to the car of somebody like my sister.
2. One spouse bought the Prius and the other decorated it.
3. A libertarian-conservative believes the Prius is a leading-edge product and bought it knowing it wouldn't really pay for itself.
4. The driver does a lot of stop-n-go city driving, which is where the hybrid does best. I'm surprised that taxi fleets have been resistant to them so far.
As for the 9mm bee sting -- Bird Dog, you're being sarcastic, of course. The 9mm is capable of serious and fatal injuries -- eminently capable of them.

I agree about the 9 mm, but I still wouldn't want to take a double tap between the eyes. But, I am an equal opportunity shooter- I own a 9mm, .45, .357 AND .44 magnums, and I'll shoot my target with whatever it wants.

The stickers must be the result of mischief - conservatives are too smart to buy a Prius. My brother just bought a Jetta diesel - much better performance and mileage.

I love it whenever Top Gear gets hold of a Prius and destroys it.

Maybe the Prius was bought as a good used-car deal. From a greenie who lost his job thanks to the way he voted.

Or, less schadenfreudey, it is a CA car, where they don’t allow diesels.

The best way to make life difficult for the Arabs is to come up with genuinely cheap alternatives to petroleum, and to drill like crazy for the plentiful petroleum in the rest of the world. This from a neighbor of the Bakken oil and oil-sands field.

There are lots of way to screw the Arabs, but keep in mind that we as a country get a smaller percentage of our oil from them than most think. We get quite a lot from Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela. I'd like to screw Chavez too and, of course, he would be screwed by doing the same things.

BTW - I know a couple of people with Priuses and they both really like them too.
