Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

You Won't Have Obama To Kick Around Anymore

Richard Nixon's bitter farewell after his defeat for governor of California in 1962: "You won't have Nixon to kick around anymore..."


Now we have President Obama one-upping Nixon, whining that he feels that some critics talk about him like a dog. Maybe he's angling for votes from sympathetic dog lovers. After all, Nixon was elected President in 1968. Smart doggie, that Obama, huh.


My friend Bookie pretty well sums up, "truly bizarre."

The O-man really doesn't get the first thing about playground rules. If you don't like what someone calls you, you have to ignore it. If you show any sensitivity at all, the nickname will stick forever.
He showed sensitivity about his ears and now every caricature of him has big ears. Now he has shown a sensitivity to being compared to a dog.

What's even worse is that as far as I can tell, no one ever compared Obama to a dog. He did it himself.

A President of a nearby country once made a reference to a dog which he later came to regret. President José Lopez Portillo is commonly seen as being Mexico’s worst President, as he squandered the oil bonanza into foreign debt. In 1982, President José Lopez Portillo vowed to “fight like a dog” to defend the peso against any devaluations. He didn’t fight very well, as drastic devaluations followed shortly after he left office in late 1982.
José Lopez Portillo built a complex of five mansions for himself and his family in Mexico City, which soon acquired the nickname of “Dog Hill.” The mansions were seen as proof of allegations of corruption.
I read in National Review in 1983 that when former President Lopez Portillo was observed dining in a restaurant, the other patrons began barking at him. Lopez Portillo fled the restaurant.

Someone, anyone, should spain to Obama that his crybaby talk isn't going to really work. You'd think a nearly 50 yr old man would know that - wouldn't you.

Not sure why anyone would talk to Obama like a dog as Dog's are man's best friend; Obama, not so much.

I recall "like a dog" being a black street contempt expression common back in the seventies. For Obama it could be something he remembers from listening to the barroom banter between his grandfather and Marshall Davis.

Good catch.

There are a number of comments over at Neoneocon by E.M. Crotchett that go into that. Among those cited: Langston Hughes, Bernie Mac, Bobby Brown, W. Sybel Lester.

A similar example was "We are the ones we have been waiting for." Turns out it was the title of a book by Alice Walker.

Obama unfortunately again let his Muslim upbringing slip out.

Dogs are considered by Muslims to be unclean animals, and calling someone a dog is a serious Muslim insult.

All the dogs that I know are loyal to their "human master" or family, and can be trained to be obedient and loving. One has to wonder, who is Barak Obama's "human"? George Soros?
