We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A thought experiment: I am grieved by Saudi policies — for example, Saudi religious discrimination, oppression of women, and persecution of homosexuals. If I were to express these grievances by blowing up a Saudi kindergarten, do you think Imam Feisal would say (1) the Saudi Royal family must share responsibility for the carnage, and (2) whether or not I had committed an act of terrorism is a “very complex question”?
...we have a situation where private sector workers in Middle America are being taxed, their children being driven ever deeper into debt to China, so government employees who have greater job security than they do, and earn more in pay and benefits than they will ever earn, can stay in Fat City.
And folks wonder why so many Americans detest government.
Unrelated, but Obama's taking an extended vacation just in time for Ramadan, which this year starts on August 12.
He hosted a Ramadan evening meal, according to Yahoo news.
"Obama to host Ramadan meal Friday: White House"
That was the first link returned from Bing on a search for "Ramadan evening meal."
Now he's rejecting a cake to be served him during the day, blaming his security staff. Ramadan observance requires no eating during the day. In lieu of that large meal is served at nightfall.
“US President Barack Obama said Wednesday his security staff put the kibosh on a birthday cake that was to be offered by union leaders for his 49th birthday.”
This explains the sudden Journolistic enthusiam for Presidential vacations. Ramadan lasts 30 days.
How will it look for Obama to observe a month of religious vacation in a country in economic meltdown?
Here’s some more info to tickle your fancy, Start of Ramadan, from Islamic Calendar.

Not to forget September 10, 2010. The end of Ramadan this year.
As for the cowardice of reporters for not following this up, note the recent firing of Doug McKelway for telling the truth about Obama.
