Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Well, sure. Because if it's one thing a bunch of dirt-poor farmers' kids plan on doing, it's attending Harvard. Thank goodness the author was right there to show them the error of their ways.

Exactly. A area that should be reserved for professionals only. And baseball pitchers.

It never occurred to my feeble mind that participation in 4-H or FFA could actually hurt one's chances of gaining admission to institutions of higher learning.

That was an eye opening blurb.

It's probably an incorrect interpretation of the data, as in correlation doesn't mean causation. Think about it, those that join ROTC, 4h, future farmers are more likely from military backgrounds, etc., and obviously most military backgrounds aren't filthy rich. On the other hand, rich kids would maybe be more inclined to ride horses, join the Intel science competition, swim club.

If a kid not from the wealthy bothered swimming, I don't think it would increase their chances significantly.

If you read the descriptions and then go to Google (keep two screens open) you will be able to see the location of many of these properties and that the sale of these properties is a direct result of the current border situation. AMERICAN citizens are running for their lives!

Re the authoritarians and food: we've said this before and we need to keep saying it. Conservatives and libertarians thought "Nineteen Eighty-Four" was a warning; Obama and his ilk see it as a roadmap.
