Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

And to you, Rube


Apart from it being America's birthday, it's also the birthday of the irrepressible Rube Goldberg (July 4, 1883 – December 7, 1970).  (note the second date)  There are some excellent tributes (including videos of Rube Goldberg contest winners) here and here.


Continuing in this spirit, here's an entire Honda taken apart and converted into one huge Rube Goldberg device.  More info here.  Happy birthday, Rube!

How do I get your videos to run in explorer or firefox. They work about half the time in AOL Do I have to download that Media player?

Eric - The above is a Flash video and should play just fine as long as you have the standard Flash plugin installed. Hop over to Google and dig up "flash player". It should be on the Adobe site. As I recall, each browser has to have it installed.
