Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Bird Dog, perhaps you might want to revisit the comment "Father's Day image on top courtesy of Theo". Maybe it's just me but she looks like a "daughter". Yikes! You may want to disassociate "Father's Day" from the photo. Or not.
ray Depends on your age, I guess.
Fatherhood requires some desire, does it not? And plenty of other things, too - afterwards. May look like a daughter to you, but not to me. That's one of the finest to grace Maggie's I've seen.
The implication of the word 'shakedown' is criminal extortion. There was nothing either criminal or immoral about pressuring BP to set up an escrow account to cover real projected losses. Not only can the government sue BP, it is obligated to sue BP to cover losses. Lawsuits tend to be protracted and even more expensive than negotiated settlements, which is why parties often enter an agreement such as the one BP entered with Obama. Calling it a shakedown, a word that oozes criminality, is a deliberate moral distortion. BP made this mess and they should pay for the very real losses incurred by the people of the United States and the residents and business persons dependent on the gulf.
Why not criticize Obama for his real failings instead of serving up baseless innuendo? http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/tue-june-15-2010/respect-my-authoritah Should BP pay for lost worker wages because of the federal governments freeze on new drilling? I think BD is correctly calling it the shakedown it is. Just wait Dr. X until your industry is targeted by the O and see how you think then.
DOJ by coward Holder had already begun criminal investigation into oil and BP had already, lawyered up according to el presidente, Hussein0.
BP was extorted with a federal prosecution threat. Coward Holder and el presidente, shoulder to shoulder, criminally extorted BP. BP played it like 711 employees are taught when they are robbed. Give'em the money fer now and beat the snot out of the dumbass thieves in Court, another day. Meself, would settle fer Hussein0's criminal government to resign and retreat from the field but some lil' part of me would delight to watch the hoosegow door slam on the Kenyan bastard. What's with the single star on Obama's hat? Is that supposed to be a Commander in Chief hat?
Methinks, it's a turtle, KBK, signifying; him be a Gaia worshiper.
His Imam will let him play that under the table to assist in denial of Muhammadan deen, fer now. Turtle is icon fer Mother Earth. Him be imaginin' him Commander in Chief of Earth. He is a dreamer, one must admit. Egalitarianism is a manifestation of envy, i.e. it is vice masquerading as virtue. This was pointed out by Helmut Schoeck in his study of envy. See here.
http://www.amazon.com/ENVY-Theory-Behaviour-HELMUT-SCHOECK/dp/0865970645 As far as polar bears are concerned, they've been around as a separate species for more than 200,000 years, and they are thriving, in spite of Al Gore's ill wishes. They are the largest "land based marine mammal", which means they bear their cubs on land, but they mostly live in or on the water or ice, and can swim hundreds of miles without ever needing to crawl up on land, in spite of what the warmenists are saying [them and their dumb propaganda photos of the poor polar bear on the melting ice floe].
They are "obligate carnivores" and I've never heard of them feeding on birds. It's seals they love, and eat constantly. Actually, when the world warms up a little bit, they do come onto the land, and roam around the little villages in Canada and Alaska, raiding the town dumps for food. But they're just waiting for the ice to freeze on Hudson's Bay, so they can go out and hunt for their favorite food -- seals. Anyway, the bears are flourishing. It's Al Gore who's looking sicker and sicker, now that his lies are falling apart. Marianne P.S. I know all this thanks to my husband the Naturalist, who has written two books on polar bears. |
You'll never, ever hear Obama say "I want my life back!". Quoted from: a comment on a photo of the current President playing golf on Father’s Day.
