We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Good online radio, from the Ivy League: WKCR. On Saturday they had a Howlin' Wolf festival which blew my mind. And right after, I went to hear Nozze di Figaro.
How much amazing music can a brain process in one day?
Thanks, BD, for the RadioTime link. It looks as good as or better than any internet radio site I've seen. But, I can't find the WKCR you mentioned, as the link just sends me to the main home page. It seems that one can search by city, among other ways. Any further info? Thanks in advance.
I love WKCR. They play great jazz almost every day. Daybreak Express in the early morning is awesome, as is Out to Lunch at noon. They also play some classical and some American roots music anc country.
You should keep an ear peeled (?) for Jake Armerding who's a Boston boy but plays around New England a lot. Excellent musician (guitar, fiddle), wonderful songwriter and an intelligent lyricist. I don't find a lot of really intelligent lyricists these days so he's become one of my favorite artists.
WKCR and WFUV (Columbia and Fordham) have some good programming... I highly recommend waking uo on Sunday mornings at 6AM (On WKCR) to "Morning Raga's". It's good for the soul.
Fortunately/unfortunately I am in the process of buying a house right now, and my whole routine seems turned upside down. Pining for the days when I could wake up early and check Maggie's links, and while away the days surfing the net...
