Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Juxtaposed to Mormon Covey's worship of man is Gagdad Bob's assessment of hero worship from Retriever's post.

First you discredit religion, and then replace it with with a pseudo-religion that occupies the vacant spiritual territory.....From this follows the worship of man -- not even Man as Such, the image and likeness of the Creator -- but usually a man.

Be it, Joseph Smith or Hussein0, it's just a man idolized by folks who wouldn't know spiritual matters even after such matters bit 'em.

I'm inclined to credit that quote to Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, but I suppose Chardin could have stolen it from Covey.
