We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I'm watching the Obama motorcade tie up traffic during rush hour so he can get to Soldier Field to take a helicopter to O'Hare to take Air Force One to the Gulf. Hundreds of working people detained for the second time in 26 hours as he just arrived in Chicago last night. My point: one more instance where he has no idea about the unintended consequences of his actions; i.e. $$ spent by the police force to clear the traffic and protect his procession and $$ lost by businesses and the employees inconvenienced by these disruptions, not to mention that his Kenwood neighborhood is in total disarray over a holiday as the FBI has put up blockades for parking, traffic, etc. for multiple blocks around his neighborhood.
And the excuse? The King has come home to spend time with his family! Heck! All his "family" live with him in the White House. (Duh...I forgot about Ayres...he's still in Chicago.) The O's just here to rally the liberals after -- in one year -- creating the biggest mess since FDR.
What has he done to improve healthcare? Nothing that won't kill every small business in the U.S. (Read the WSJ link noted in MF's round-up). What has he done to clean up the situation that created the financial crisis? Nothing. Note that no part of Barney Frank's bill mentions Ginnie Mae or Freddie Mac. Or the ratings agencies. Or sub-prime lending redefined as community redevelopment. The manipulation by the liberals in government creating a false economy is what started the mess.
Oh, but he's arranging a bailout for his friends at Shore Bank who spent their resources redistributing wealth throughout the world without the necessary capital to underwrite such projects.
And his token to the immigration mess is to send "up to" 1200 National Guardsmen to "monitor" the AZ border. Geez. Has he read history? It took Eisenhower about one thousand to clean up the whole SW, but I believed his border patrolmen were armed.
This man is out of control as are those in Congress that support his programs. And why? Most of his ken are academics or lifetime politicians that have never run a business or led an army where you are responsible for the survival of those relying on you. Among "academics" I include lawyers (forgive me, family) who only benefit by passing more laws thereby making life so complicated that one can't breath without conferring with them.
That's an excellent rant, jma, by the way. I agree, and I hope it makes you feel better. AS for myself, I am watching, and deploring, our President's latest pacifying trip to our Gulf Coast, before he ignores the Memorial Day ceremonies to honor our military dead, and bops off to Chicago 'on vacation' to get his latest instructions from the thug-in-chief of the Daley Mob. Obama's going to drop in here, for three hours of his crowded schedule, make a few easy-sympathy statements to the beleaguered Louisianans and get back on board Air Foce One.
Ye gads, Marianne, he's back! All those Air Force jets clearing the skies. This morn I thought they were practicing for an air show. Forgot the Prez needs accompaniment.
Have a few career military in our family with my son-in-law just back from third tour in Iraq and now, thankfully, one of you Texans. I wish O would keep the ritual at Arlington.
Guess it's not his style.
There is no way in hell that the women's leadership network in Seattle will allow Rossi to win--unless of course the deal has already been negotiated. Let's see now Murray's husband continues to be in control of the Docks/Shipyards of Seattle, Gregoire gets . . . Let's not forget that when Slade Gorton that much honored Republican decided to retire, he did not make an official announcement. Nope, he just failed to notify the Republican Party headquarters/chair/leadership, etc. Then he ran a campaign by not running very hard (few signs, few dull speeches, etc.) Simply put Gorton assured himself a pleasant retirement by making it easy for other woman senator to win--Maria Cantwell. WOW! What a coincidence two senators--two liberal women--neither with very much previous political, or professional experience. Ohhhwee--what kind of deal did Rossi sign? Sorry folks--got to dig the rot out of the WA state apple barrel before you even worry about whose gonna make apple cider!
