Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Good morning, BD. I know MF doesn't have a tip line, but I saw this article in the WSJ headline, "Having a Cow About Steak Quality" -- and thought it might be of interest. Especially since, a few weeks ago during an ongoing thread about food, our lovely Marianne Matthews told us all about this. She learned it from a guy she dated back in the day.

I hope you wash your hands after using it. I forgot to mention the particles of food you have stuck in your beard. Nice to see you are drinking Juan Valdez coffee.
Where did you hide the doughnuts? If I need insults, I can get them anytime from my close personal friends.
I never would have thought that you we're the overly sensitive type. If, after three years you can't tell my sarcastic humor then I feel sorry for you.
You and I have played cat and mouse before. From one Mama's boy to the other I apologize if I have hurt your feelings. D ... Thanks for your lovely compliment. The Wall Street Journal article is an excellent one. Read it this morning and enjoyed it, echoes of my grandmother's advice on buying meat ringing gently in my ears. As she always pointed out, "Fat is where it's at, dearie, as far as good beef is concerned."
And in addition while I'm at it, chickens should always be cooked on the bone with the skin on, whatever you plan to do with them afterwards. These poor pre-boned and skinned morsels they offer now in the grocery store meat cases are what my husband calls "mystery meat" and they taste like library paste. If anything. We pass this way but once, my dears. And food lust is one of the last reliable lusts we lose as we age. Let's treat our lustful pleasures with respect. Marianne I always tell my husband that, whatever my other shortcomings, he cannot complain about my cooking.
Speaking of Arizona's new law to control illegal immigration, my American friends with Hispanic backgrounds here all are hoping that the new effort succeeds. No one speaks for these first or second generation Americans who are not demonstrating against the Arizona law. One friend pointed out that border security should have been implemented a long time ago when the problem of porous borders became evident. Instead, it became popular in governmental circles to give illegal aliens unearned rewards, like free health care, free citizenship for babies born to illegal immigrants [we call them anchor babies down here] free schooling and many other percs, so that these folks began to look on these privileges as their rights, just as other members of our society consider health care a right granted by the Constitution. Which it isn't.
As long as we fritter away the unique and precious assets of our country on those folks who have not earned them by abiding by the rules, or even learning the language of our country, they will continue to scorn us as naive suckers and try to grab more. I love the Arizona governor's video which is everywhere on the 'Net today. If Mr. Obama were smart, he's back off the criticizing, and at least read the bill he's commenting on. It's only four pages long. It might even fit on a teleprompter. Marianne P. S. I saw a discussion on Fox News today in which a commenter said that illegal alien arrests in the San Diego area had dropped by 95% after the border fence in that area was built. Suggestive. Jewish boys can and do have a normal sex life after circumcision. Also, statistically proveable lower rates of some cancers and AIDS.
Jewish girls can't and don't have a normal sex life or childbirth after their mutilation. There is a BIG difference. Marie,
I suspect you meant to say that [u]Muslim[\u] girls can't and don't have a normal sex life ..." However, I'm confused about the childbirth aspect of your comment. Jim G. Marie ... What do you mean about "Jewish girls" and "mutilation" and not having "a normal sex life" afterward? It sounds to me as if you are confusing the Muslim custom of 'clitoridectomy' for young Muslim girls with circumcision [removal of the foreskin] of baby boys, which is a religious rite of the Jewish faith but is also common among non-Jews in our society, as an aid to cleanliness. Girls who have undergone clitoridectomies [surgical removal of the clitoris] cannot experience sexual pleasure as normal women can. Boys who are circumcised, however, can experience the full range of sexual pleasure.
The Jewish faith and the Muslim faith are not identical, and bear little resemblance to each other. The Jewish faith resembles the Christian faith far more closely. Yes, as you say, there is "a big difference", but not the one you are imagining. Marianne |
