Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The most indelibly comic moment of today's news is the Quincy Tea Partiers, sweet senior citizens dressed in red 'tea shirts' and smiling for the camera, with SWAT officers in full regalia, guns at the ready, lined up behind them. Oh, yess, prepared for Big Trouble they were because Mr. Obama was making one of his interminable speeches nearby, and one of his managers had called in the SWAT team to protect him from those "violent protesters" who were ambling along singing 'God Bless America."

You just can't make this stuff up.

There is an old saying to the effect that offense cannot be given it can only be taken. When somebody claims to be offended this is simply a comment on their emotional state.

There's some truth in that, but certainly offense can be offered even if it isn't accepted. The Iranian official clerics pronouncing all non-Shi'ites to be dogs, pigs, etc -- they are certainly offering offense. Many examples.
