We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Leaving the coolness factor aside, it is infuriating that politicians have such little regard for our money that they have to build new stadiums and then blow them up after 25-30 yrs, replacing them with exponentially more expensive stadiums. My wallet weeps.
My wallet weeps too, feeblemind. The Houston City Council or the Harris County Supervisors, I can't remember which, have just decided that Houston needs yet another stadium. We already have the Astrodome, which is still perfectly functional but which nobody uses any more unless there's a Hurricane, Reliant Stadium, which is almost brand new and the football teams and other first line sports activities use, a baseball stadium for -- yes, you guessed it, the Houston Astros -- and now, they're planning to build a soccer stadium too.
I ask you ... why can't they play soccer in either Reliant Stadium or the Astros stadium? This is like having a bathtub for each member of the family, for gosh sakes.
