We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
For the right, the primary moral authority is God (or, for secular conservatives, Judeo-Christian values), followed by parents. Of course, government must also play a role, but it is ultimately accountable to God and it should do nothing to undermine parental authority.
For the left, the state and its government are the supreme authorities, while parental and divine authority are seen as impediments to state authority.
...from Walter Duranty to Pinch Sulzberger, Thomas Friedman and Frank Rich, the Times has a long history of being dazzled by the abstractions of totalitarianism, and thus being blinded from the workaday world of actually reporting the news.
Obamacare takes a long and detailed look at the current state of American health care and identifies those areas in which it is not yet fucked-up and closes all those unfucked-up loopholes in only 2,000 pages. Given the problem of having to fuck up still functioning elements of the health care system in all 50 states, Obamacare is a masterpiece of concision.
Hopefully tomorrow we'll see the death of Obamacare once and for all. Every time Zero puts in a personal appearance he fails. Just look at Copenhagen (twice), NJ, VA and MA. Might as well throw in Russia and China as well. The guy's the kiss of death.
They think us common folks are all from the capital city of Stupidistan - Moronica. Witness Valarie Jarret's comments about "explaining our policies in simpler language" so the less enlightened can understand. Er...what?
No, but not for the reason everybody thinks. The whole concept of the Euro zone was built around being a competitor of the dollar and US directly - with the compliance and encouragement of the US Treasury. The problem is that the Euro is not a single currency - each country still holds it's own currency in reserve, each country has it's own national identity tied up in it's currency.
It's very similar to the early days of our own currency trials and tribulations. Each state, in some cases each town and bank, had their own currency - the only standard in common was gold and silver until the US took over responsibility of issuing a common currency valid in every state that joined the Union.
Euro countries are going to kill the Euro due to their own parochialism rather than any economic cause.
