We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The latest independent analysis of world climate data by acclaimed skeptic blogger ‘Chiefio’ (aka E. M. Smith) and his blog contributors confirm that the Global Historical Climatology Network (GHCN) has cynically dumped the world’s second oldest and reliable climate record at Prague in the Czech Republic for no scientific reason.
Climate skeptics claim the censoring of the Czech’s raw data has been perpetrated by climate scientists because the Prague records prove there has been no warming in Europe for over two hundred years.
In my view, there is something a bit sinister about the petulance with which Democratic leaders bewail their inability to compel their own members to vote for legislation that is massively unpopular with the American people. This is, after all, a democracy.
And please, pray tell me, what about the white farmers who lost their farms during the years of 1982-1995? Both Regan and Clinton contributed to that debacle. During those years more than 100,000 family farms were lost EACH year. That is to say each year for more than 12 years. Pretty big bite out of the middle class wouldn't you say?
Excuse me. The actual number is closer to 120,000 family farms per year for 12 years. Total is more than 1, 500.000 family farms are gone by 1995. There has been a continuous decline each year since then. AND, please, please do not whine to me about "corporate farms".. They were created by New Yorkers (investment bankers) with a few flunkies from the farming regions of America. Fifth generation kids who wanted "more". But the vast majority of children who were forced off the family farms are living in less than middle class conditions in urban areas. I would bet that the vast majority of the older white guys dying in Afghanistan, and Iraq are victims in one way or another of the family farm tear down!
OK, I've overstepped already and forgiveness is easier to get than permission and there are some snow and ski lovers at Maggie's, so... I've botched the link.
My eBleg was for the adaptive ski program at Bretton Woods:
They help people who are not normally able to enjoy the sorts of things many of us live for. And they do it through the four seasons. I can't describe how much I love the four seasons. I don't want to live with only one or two of them.
But anyway, if you are inclined to give and our benevolent hosts are inclined to allow this commentary eBleg to surviver here, the proper link is:
Down the right side of the page you'll see a list of "Top Teams". I am partial, personally, to Cattamir and JustNordic, but any dollars sponsored wind up at the same destination - helping people feel the joy of moving through this world of ours.
Knucks - No need to feel guilty about the bleg. There's a gulf the size of the Grand Canyon between "spam" and "wanting to help others." And, for that matter, it's not even really a "bleg", in the sense that you're asking for others, not yourself.
And it looks like a terrific organization. It's one thing if some 17-year-old rides a motorcycle helmetless at 95 miles per hour, crashes into a tree and becomes a paraplegic. Some would figure he deserved sympathy, others would figure he got what he deserved.
But for people born with disabilities, the rules change. These are the unfortunates Bretton Woods is helping, and it could be argued there is no nobler calling in life. So kudos to you for passing the word.
