We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I sincerely hope that Walter Russell Mead is right about the death spiral of the AGW global warming con. This could have been a dreadful, long-lasting financial disaster for our country, which can ill afford to have any further financial burden placed on its currently fragile shoulders. Cap& tax/tax/tax/, which would have passed Congress, is an ill-conceived bill whose basic purpose is to grab still more of citizen money and freedom away from us.
Let's see. If Congress passes the Obamacare bill, that gives it control of one-sixth of the Aemrican economy. Adding the Cap&trade bill to the mess would further give Congress at least as much control of our lives as Obamacare would. And that's only the first year of Obama's transformation of the country into a statist regime.
Regarding the "two futures": yes, the Republicans are right. Higher tax rates will diminish revenues and economic activity. Stifling regulation will diminish both. The collectivist mentality works poorly in Europe, for all that many Europeans seem to think it works well. It will work poorly in America. But it will look good to those who expect to be the elites who manage us and it will look good to those who won't manage themselves.
"The Khmer Rouge (Khmer: ??????????) was the name given to the followers of the Communist Party of Kampuchea, the totalitarian ruling party in Cambodia from 1975 to 1979, led by Pol Pot, Ieng Sary, Son Sen and Khieu Samphan. The regime led by the Khmer Rouge from 1975 to 1979 was known as the Democratic Kampuchea."
Aren't the democrats (supposedly) closer to totalitarian/communisim than the Republicans.
What drives me crazy is that idiots in the MSM do not see the ultimate end of the usurping of power by an elite few who then become drunk with power.
Our constitution was meant to avoid this by spreading power.
