We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I know that ice skating is truly a sport for the children of the very, very wealthy. I understand the politics are very mean in the early years. But in spite of her daddy's money--that is not him out there by himself. There is no one out there but her and she is one of the few gals whose found that precise balance between female grace and extreme technical skills. Good on you Sasha! You made my heart skip !
Oh I don't know about the sport for the very very wealthy bit--Nancy Kerrigan's dad just died (in unpleasant circumstances) and it reminded me that her family is very ordinary middle class: Stoneham MA is not a toney suburb. and she also attended the public HS there.
I once scrimmaged with The Phoenix Roadrunners. Robbie Ftorek had infamously taken figure skating lessons in the off season and was getting quite a ribbing from his team mates. About 10 minutes in he put a move on Sandy Hucul that left him staring in disbelief. No more ribbing.
