I�ve Failed As A Father

After all I�ve counseled, my 9-year old son insists on doing it his way in tomorrow�s 4^th grade elections to the student council.

His speech is about how he will tell the students what the council decides, rather than tell the council what the students want. Liberal.

And, he�s carrying in a bag of candy for the students, to get the students to elect him. Corrupt.

If he wins the election, will he bring home congrats letters from Pelosi and Obama?

Grrr!

Bruce congratulations, you have now achieved rank amateur status as a parent. I'll let you in on a little dirty secret. We're all rank amateur's in that department.

Bruce ... Love the cartoon, especially the "pictures of my mom in the shower" part. Boy children start to be boys as they emerge from the womb, don't they? Saw a Japanese cartoon to this effect a year or so ago, with the just-finished laboring mom looking down over her sheet-covered knees and seeing the newborn baby with a camera snapping pictures. Of mom, as well as the nurses and doctors.

I hadn't realized that Asians had such a rowdy sense of humor.

And, according to Wikipedia: "Japan is currently the largest pornographic producer in the world, producing more pornography than the United States."

Have you ever seen a Japanese tourist WITHOUT a camera? Those folks take pictures of everything. :>)

Kind of reminds me of my Maternal Grandfather. Pops was a Ward Heeler in Milwaukee and every election there was a free beer and shot at the local bar - one for every vote you made. Then again, his job as Ward Heeler was to make sure that if there was a problem, it was fixed - or a patronage job given out.

In some ways, Milwaukee politics makes ward politics in Chicago seem like Sunday school.

They used to not take crap in Milwaukee. My great uncle used to drive a school bus in Milwaukee. When the kids would act up, he would pull the bus over and make them learn the rosary. In German.

Gold Digger ... I LOVE that story. It's so very umm -- Milwaukeean. Grew up there many many years ago. And that's how I learned the Rosary, or at least parts of it. The high school I went to was originally named the German-American Academy, later renamed Milwaukee University School, a humble little cluster of builldings compared to the fancy public high schools, which had the highest college acceptance rate of any high school in the city.

Not a very good football team though.

Marianne, I moved to Milwaukee two years ago to get married. (My dad was in the air force, so I grew up all over - my husband moved here from California just because he liked the city.) Milwaukee definitely has its own culture. I laugh (and write about) trying to shovel my sidewalk before my neighbor can get to it. And about the bargain counter at Usinger's. And the Packers rosary. Go to my blog and look at the "Wisconsin 101" posts. You'll recognize Milwaukee! (I hope.) I do like it here. Just not the snow.

Gender politics won the election today, beating out corruption by candy. There were two boys and one girl running. The girl received all the female votes. The boys split up the boy votes.

Tom FRancis ... The lesson is, we can be sweet-talked into almost anything, as long as the sweet-talker is sincere. And that goes for both sexes, thank goodness.
