Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Astonishing

Among the astonishing things about the ObamaCare debate—or lack thereof—is that Washington is inundated with warnings about the destructiveness of this plan, and it doesn't matter. The agency that runs Medicare rung the latest alarm bell on Friday, and good luck finding any media mention.

Why on earth is anyone astonished that the people who are writing the healthcare bill are doing so deceitfully and ignorantly? Or are we to be astonished that the bill's cheerleaders in the MSM consistently hide its flaws and exaggerate its claimed benefits?
I gave my son and daughter an illustration of "liberal" vs "conservative" a few days ago. My daughter was bringing up her heavy suitcase as she prepared to leave for college after Christmas. I asked her, "Do you need a hand?" She said yes and I brought up the suitcase. I said, "If I were a liberal, I'd have sent Andrew to carry it."

Off subject. Please tell me where I can find a post on a two or three part article about all I would ever want to know about what caused the 2008 financial catastrophe. I'm sure I originally saw it on this site and intended to get back to read it and now it seems to be history. I do consider this request as important, to me of course.

Thanks for all your great postings and commentary. We're amazingly on the same page on most subjects.
