Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

We need more Bubbas:
T. "Bubba" Bechtol, part time City Councilman from Pensacola, Florida, was
asked on a local live radio talk show the other day just what he thought of
the allegations of torture of the Iraqi prisoners. His reply prompted his
ejection from the studio, but to thunderous applause from the audience.

"If hooking up an Iraqi prisoner's scrotum to a car's battery cables will
save one American GI's life, then I have just two things to say: "Red is positive - Black is negative"

So Maggie's Farm is generally in favor of the Abu Ghraib 2003 torture? Good thinking guys...but what will your response be when, in a future war, no nation will respect Geneva Convention standards with respect to those future American GIs?

I like and respect your blog, but this policy, if it is indeed yours, seems so foolish and short-sighted. Could we get some clarification or reasoning on this?

News Junkie speaks for himself, but I think he was more endorsing the emotion - and the guy's lack of PC - than he was suggesting a new policy re torture.

Thanks for the clarification, Bird Dog. I think other liberal readers of your usually excellently-reasoned blog (imo, it took a serious dip in quality this weekend under News Junkie's control) would be interested in some Maggie's Farm ruminations on the torture issue, when you get around to it. In the meantime, keep up the good work.
