The MSM silence on Climategate

Anchoress: Reporting Climategate would be like an attack on the religion of many. Some religions are more sacred than others.

Indeed. Here's the BBC on the climate issue of the day: ~~Scientists fudge data~~ ~~It's hot in Africa~~ Climate has been a major driver of armed conflict in Africa,
research shows - and future warming is likely to increase the number of
deaths from war.

(That's odd - the experts said the tropics weren't affected by AGW, didn't they?)

And here's how ABC handles it: ABC News Instead Runs Headline, "Worse Than the Worst: Climate Report Says Even Most Dire Predictions Too Tame"

The MSM are largely ignoring it, with one or two exceptions.
Here's one from George Monbiot of the UK Guardian (usually a fanatic warmer)...

Fellow commenters. Please forgive my off-topic comment.

BD. I'm very tired of my comments being deleted with no good reason. I have met all the blog standards, no personal attacks, no ad hominems, no cussing. Also kept on topic as far as I know. Is this a site of free speech or a site of heavy censorship. The latter seems to be the case at the moment.

Just ban me. As I'll not give up on challenging bullcrap. Live up to your banner or change the thing.

This is truly a sad situation for many of us. In our own country we can't even agree what our words mean-and it goes downhill from there. The press defends its prophets through sins of omission or commission; whichever serves its orthodoxy. There are countless reasons why we have reached this level of depravity-too many to even list here, but I believe that one fact in all of this remains: truth and reason will not change these zealots. They will continue to insist that we all drown (or hang) together irrespective of what truth exists. Assaults on their beliefs will be met by escalating defences, and these defenders of "the faith" will never be won over by reason, facts-truth. They will never be won over-period. It's been suggested that it's impossible to have and maintain a civilization if the people don't share common values. Well?

Well, the Houston Chronicle ran an editorial on the upcoming meeting in Copenhagen, providing readers with alarming news that, "In another indication that global warming is accelerating, record minimum sea ice in the Arctic was reported last month."

Apparently the editors of the Chronicle are willing to ignore Climategate, but the Chronicle readers are not. Read the comments! Here's the link, but sometimes my links don't work, so you might have to cut and paste.

I despair of The Houston Chronicle. To begin with, the factoid simply isn't true. And the reporters don't know the difference between 'sea ice', which fluctuates seasonally, and 'pack ice' which is more or less permanent. And they don't want to research facts thoroughly which, with computers and the Internet, would be relatively easy compared to library hard copy research. Because that would be 'too hard.'

Mostly, The Chronicle gets most of its predigested stories from either AP [and we know how accurate they are] and The New York Times/L.A. Times ['nuff said]. Or possibly The Puffington Host, as the Wall Street Journal has dubbed it.

Thank God for American common sense. It's still out here, bloodied but unbowed.
