We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In this case, no idea is a good idea. While Jerry Jeff made the song famous, Ray Wylie Hubbard wrote it. While Ray Wylie Hubbard didn't achieve the megawealth of Michael Jackson- nor did he squander such funds- he has been able to make a living in music. Still alive and kicking.
According to Wikipedia, Ray Wylie Hubbard is a graduate of University of North Texas in Denton. Which presents an opportunity to introduce Dentonís most famous band: Brave Combo, a neo-polka outfit. Ampong other songs, they have set Purple Haze and People are Strange to polka style.
While this is Chinga Chavinís Asshole From El Paso, I and most people who know the song are more familiar with Kinky Friemanís cover, albeit an older version than this one. For years I mistakenly thought that the Kinkster had written the song himself. My favorite Kinkster creation is They Ainít Makiní Jews Like Jesus Anymore. Kinky Friedman's parents ran a summer camp in the TX hill country. I know someone whose brother attended the camp, and had the Kinkster as his cabin counselor.
