Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, November 22. 2009Government medical care: Cui bono?Among numerous problems, I think the biggest problem with the Dem medical care bill is that there is no national consensus for this. It is unwise to do things this large without a national consensus, but the Left is intoxicated with their (temporary, cocaine-like) power. With Medicare - for better or worse - there was a consensus. With Medicaid for the very poor, there was too. As it stands now, the Dems are proposing a solution without a problem. Or, a government solution seeking a problem... It's a manufactured "crisis." There are easy, simple, cheap, non-governmental solutions to medical insurance unfairnesses which do not increase Federal power. (Yes, we have already noted that Federal employees are the only ones exempt from the bill.) Cui bono? Well, the Dems think they will benefit with their names on an historic take-over of 1/6th of the American economy by being rewarded with the gratitude and eternal dependency of the voters. Secondarily, the government will benefit by accruing more money and bureaucracies (111 of them by the last count I read, for our enjoyment) - which means jobs to distribute and more power over our lives. Third, unions will benefit - or so they believe. (Just wait until your doc is a de facto government employee treating you the cost-benefit-analyzed-by-experts government way - and his or her nurse is a member of SEIU.) The 81% of Americans who are satisfied with their medical care will not. Nor will those increasingly-few who actually pay the Federal income and capital gains taxes to pay the bills. I did get a kick out of Harry Reid's statement yesterday:
Yes, we already knew that Government is the Church for the Left. It ain't my religion. And I don't want to work on Maggie's Farm No More.

Honest - you have no idea how many times I've heard this thought expressed in different ways. Both my daughters, one an oncologist and the other just finishing up her psych residency and one daughter-in-law, OB/GYN plus my own internist, rheumatologist and opthamologist - every single one expressed similar thoughts. And they are not extremely conservative like me - they are fine, upstanding young men and women and registered Democrats. :>) My question to my Congresscritters has never been answered - when they deign to answer. I just simply asked why it's so important to change the system that 87% of the American populace believes is acceptable. Can't get a straight answer. Yeah - I know BD - just venting. :>)
If there's anybody who has recieved the benefits of modern medicine, it's me. And I appreciate every single dime I spend on getting the good sound advice and care our medical system provides. I just cannot believe that these legislators are blind to that - I mean seriously, taxing medical research? Taxing basic care? Jail and financial penalities for NOT electing to have insurance? Dang me if I'm not getting madder and I feel a rant coming on. And I have to finish the main house bathroom today or Mrs. Francis is going to rip me a new one. :>) Has anyone considered how the current democratic plans would be implemented in 2010? (As a small business owner I’m waiting to hear from my insurance agent on my limited options for 2010 health insurance). What caps/rules/limits/taxes would be imposed against what are negligible benefits?
My best guess is chaos and streams of directives from D.C. I would suggest that all employers, insurance agents, insurance companies, doctors, hospitals, concerned citizens etc. copy and forward all correspondence from government to their employees, families, neighbors etc. Perfectly legal, and provides CYA (you are only ensuring transparency and full information with our glorious tomorrow). The more subpart B, paragraph 12 stuff people see the better to stop this before it really gets going. Train Wreck in progress. (Ridin' that train, high on cocaine...)
According to Dingy Harry in the quote, this wonderful bill will even prevent death. Immortality for all!
If you don't want that farm job anymore, may I put in my application? It's a tough job market out here
This government is sowing the seeds of its own destruction. I would say that we are about where we were circa 1850. Of course, the reasons today are universally different than those that precipitated first civil war, but...The good people of America are awakening to the fact that Washington is out of control. It is a dysfuncitional tyrannical apparatus that is busily serving itself and its favorite constituents at the costs of about everything else. Washington is debasing our currency, our childrens' future, and our way of life...It is high time states start saying no to the tyrant as an act of self-preservation.
"[G]uarantee its people the right to live free from the fear of illness and death"
Wow. Your government wants to turn you all into gods! Just wondering though: will this make it unconstitutional to be sick or dying? Will sick or dying Americans be arrested and jailed? live free from the fear of illness and death.....wow is right. Unbelievable.
That koolaid is getting stronger and stronger....wonder what they have spiked it with now? This really would be comical if it wasn't going to destroy. According to Michelle Bachman, add this to the already-nationalized financial institutions and auto industry and you have a government takeover of 48% of the private sector in less than a year and a permanent Left government. You figure it out.
