Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Nathan Hale School


The famous rebel spy Nathan Hale taught in this one-room school in East Haddam, CT (then a part of Moodus, CT), for a short while after graduating from Yale. He felt too isolated there, apparently, so took another teaching job in the city down in New London.


Does that Lab hunt? You betcha.

A nice part of our state. My ham radio buddy, Randy, is a direct descendant of Mr. Hale, and reports that he was a terrible spy, in that he was caught the first day on the job!

Is Randy actually a direct descendant? I thought that Nathan Hale died before he got married.

Nathan Hale's sister was in my high school class. Nathan Hale himself was in my sister's class. The most memorable Nathan Hale quote I recall from high school: "Yo."

Doesn't quite approach the eloquence of his famous ancestor.
But then the Nathan Hale that I knew never prattled on about his ancestor- such Yankee reticence is to his credit.
