Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Welcome home

Our friends' son and his Navy Seal team have returned home after their second six-month posting in Wherrizitstan. Their well-being has been in our prayers every day.


My daily thoughts about these good, tough men is part of what finally motivated me to get my flag up.


Seeing it hanging or flapping there each morning when I step out (yes, it is illuminated at night) is a good reminder to me of many important things. I recommend doing it for that reason.


(Buddy comments that they returned minus one of their team. It's hard to know what to say.)

Bless those guys. I admire them enormously, and have no comprehension of how they do what they do. It's beyond me.

Thank you for all your support, that is truly what makes this job worth it. We returned about 2 weeks ago from falluja, Iraq with all team members except one. Thank you again

Never had the pleasure of working with your bunch, but I have worked for the USMC in that general part of the world. Good people. So at our house, all you guys are in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks.

Ditto on blessings to those good men. I learned proper flag etiquitte in the Boy Scouts and the Navy. However, in these trying times when the Constitution and the underlying principals of our Republic are under assault, I am starting to think that displaying the flag ALL THE TIME, through thick and thin, day and night, rain and stormy weather may be more important than the nuances of protocol. Old Glory has been through some tough times and survived. These are tough times.
