20 Economic Facts of Life
Harry Reid’s crap out in Las Vegas. Senator Snake Eyes. Here’s where to send Reid the message to get off the (Senate) floor.
You could call Reid's remark ugly and be right. It certainly was boorish. Asinine? That goes without saying.
But to fully capture the magnitude of Reid's remark (and to stop him from doing the same thing to others) it must be called what it was -- a full-on threat perpetrated by a bully who has forgotten that he was elected to office to protect Nevadans, not sound like he's shaking them down.

Are Green Shirts the new Brown Shirts? “Shockingly, opponents to Obamacare are being bullied, and consent manufactured by the White House and Obama activists.”
Via Gateway Pundit: “I find it ironic that Obama gave a eulogy for Ted Kennedy when Obama's friend, Bill Ayers, dedicated his book to Sirhan Sirhan, the murderer of Bobby Kennedy.”
They’re All Champs: Mexico beats Texas, narrowly 5-4, in Little League World Series consolation championship game. -- One of the benefits of watching is that the coaches can be heard giving advice to their teams. I’ve picked up some useful coaching pointers. (Taiwan Tip: practice doesn’t make perfect; practice perfectly. That needs more emphasis in the US, in all things.) -- My son’s Fall Season team was out practicing Friday afternoon in 90+ degree heat. The boys didn’t wilt in the heat, unlike me. Wished I was young(er) again. So, I spent much of Saturday out in the heat cutting and trimming trees. Kinda dumb of this older boy, huh? No need to answer; my wife already has. -- Over 30,000 fans at the championship game in Williamsport, PA, in all over 400,000 at games, and many, many millions around the world watching on TV, ratings sky-high over last year. (Little League is played in 75 countries.) I’ve got to repeat again: I haven’t enjoyed watching games this much since I was a young boy at Ebbets Field.
– Taiwan’s fielding not as strong as usual but not allowing Chula Vista to swat the homers it has become feared for. Still, focused all-around play by Chula Vista WINS the Little League World Series 6-3. – Vice-President Joe Biden, former Little Leaguer, comes on the field to congratulate the Chula Vista players. “Biden joked that if he was given the choice as a child to pitch in the World Series or be vice president, he would pick the World Series.” No comment. -- Original 1908 “Take me out to the ball game.” -- Yiddish version + God Bless America, beautifully sung, with great photos. That’s how I grew up.
Via Tom Maguire: “Deborah Solomon of the Times plays twenty questions with Tom Daschle on health care reform, but the tax scammer doesn't have twenty good answers. Per Daschle, all the Dems need to do to win the health care debate is guilt-trip the nation into picking up the tab for the downtrodden.”
My friend Judith Klinghoffer discusses Obama, Third World Style Leader?
That said, watching the NYT chart of the Kennedy “royal family” and listening to Reagan worship of many conservatives, I do believe that Obama worship represents not a novelty but a recurrent attempt by the modern priestly class, the intellectuals, to use charismatic politicians to help them bypass the “ignorant masses” and implement policies designed to overcome the “false consciousness” of those masses.

On this subject, Maimonides’ highest level of tzedakah (usually translated as “charity”, but more properly tzedakah translates as “righteousness”; “charity” is related, in going beyond what is minimal).
"(To) Anticipate charity by preventing poverty. Assist the reduced fellow man, either by a considerable gift of a sum of money, or by teaching him a trade, or by putting him in the way of business so that he may earn an honest livelihood and not be forced to the dreadful alternative of holding out his hand for charity. This is the highest step and summit of charity's golden ladder."

Mark Steyn:
Free speech, property rights, economic liberty and the right to self-defense are under continuous assault by Big Government. But who cares when Big Government lets you shag anything that moves and every city in North America hosts a grand parade to celebrate your right to do so?

Some is good. Excess is not. From Insty:
ALTHOUSE ON CLIFT ON why women continued to support Ted Kennedy despite Chappaquiddick, the Palm Beach rape case, etc. “Face it. Liberal politics always came first for the so-called women’s groups, which is why they are not really women’s groups at all.” I think it’s abortion. Abortion gets you a pass as long as you’re useful if you’re a Republican (see., e.g., Robert Packwood), and as long as you live if you’re a Democrat. But maybe we’re saying the same thing here.
Did she ask the baby?

It’s going to be one heck of a book by Cheney!
Why I am Anti-Republican. Worth thinking about, from a Reaganite. But, is he being the purist he accuses others of being, or the my-way-or-the-highway type he says he rejects?
A review of The Death of Conservatism by Sam Tanenhaus:
Conservatism in America deploys the principles of tradition, reason, and orderly change in defense of liberal institutions—the Constitution, representative government, liberty and equal rights, the rule of law. It is generally the conservative, not the modern liberal, who emphasizes the inspired example of the founding fathers, the words of the Constitution, and the sacrifices made to build free institutions….

Mens Underwear Index: “Here's the theory, briefly: Sales of men's underwear typically are stable because they rank as a necessity. But during times of severe financial strain, men will try to stretch the time between buying new pairs, causing underwear sales to dip.”

I’m outa here!
