Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thanks for the link!
I ADORE Pizza Wizzard with its jazzy alliterative pizzazz! Re: "We have only 4 months to save the planet!"
They obviously decided to adopt the approach of Obamacare: We're in a crisis, we have to do it now, and we don't care if the evidence is increasingly against doing this, that just demonstrates the urgency of acting now. The pizza place was probably a palm reader in a previous incarnation, judging by the moon and star painted on it.
Re: horseman, pass by, it's nice to hear a story of common sense by a policeman with experience. Makes my feet a bit itchy, too. It isn't mis-spelled, o proofreading newspaperman, it is playing with the double Z in "pizza".
"Bending the Curve" from the 'tired old text of the past' to the graphic design "the American People Deserve & Demand!" It's free money. George Soros is seen in the article handing out his part of the $175million ($35 million) to aid the neediest students in New York. One of the comments made about the article suggested that it was "bread and circus"--narcotic for the masses throughout history. Each child between 3 and 17 was eligible for $200.00. Colombian Cali and Medellin cartels come to mind because they too had bread and circuses.
"So cool girls are math smart, genetically destined to be hackers, risk takers...Cool girls for selective schools prefer engineering over history, math over English, computer science over political science, and economics over psychology. A touch of Asperger's isn't a bad thing for a girl, either. Actually, it's a great thing. "
Great! When will guys with these attributes be seen as "cool"? Or will that not be necessary because they will finally have some girls who appreciate those skills and have an interest in discussing them? Of course I exaggerate...there are always a few girls like that...unfortunately they have the same hygene problems of the guys like that...of course I exaggerate...of course not much... I digress back to the discussion on LibArts vs. Engineering/Science...There seems to me to be too much of an either/or mentality on these things and not enough recognition that people who can do technical work are very creative, thinking people. It's just that a large swath of the LibArts has been taken over by the regression from "free thinking" down into "freedom from accountable thinking". A certain Lolapoloozah comes to mind... Oh, and I take offense at the "genetically destined to be hackers" on a couple of levels. You poopy-head, KRW. :"...the regression from "free thinking" down into "freedom from accountable thinking"". Giving you credit where it's due, you said "a large swath", so you are okay.
What bothers me, I think, about statements like that is that no one gives the college kids who take these courses any credit for having a brain. I know discernment is low at that age, but haven't we all admitted to being 'liberal' in college and morphing into conservative as we age? These more idiotic courses do not have that much effect in the long run unless all the other factors that make up the liberal mind-map are still determining the road one takes. As for your 'hacking' thing... I agree. Insult. What that first description describes is the perfect Stepford Geek. Love the 'touch of Asperger's'. Anyway, creativity and intuition are as gifts to the linear thinker as they are to the comprehensive thinker. The 'cool' factor works both ways. And to end, KRW, you seem to have both. ` Off topic: Marianne is fine and if all goes well she should be back up next week some time. She is having a new outlet installed in her room with her own modem. She thinks there's a problem with her husband's router. She is devoted to all at Maggie's, and was humbled as I read all the inquires to her.
Bless her heart.
Hope it all gets fixed. The problem makes no sense to me, but I am in the stone age. Four months until all hope is lost and pizza...sounds like an excuse for a party to me! Now all we need is beer. Oh yeah...come on, come on.
"Health care in the US is covered by three main systems-- Medicare, medicaid, and private insurance. Two of these systems are bankrupt, and will be unable to make payments beyond 2032 (insert correct date here, I don't know). The third is solvent, and can make all of its payments for the foreseeable future.
Barack Obama's plan is to take the one system meeting its obligations and fold it into the two systems that are bankrupt." That is the essence of socialism. The history of the blood-soaked 20th century shows that socialism cannot create anything new, so its purveyors must constantly be on the lookout for someone to roll - internally or externally. Ultimately, they run out of targets and the system crashes, but not before it has devoured the very matrix of a nation, or nations, and left piles of millions of corpses. Nor is the 20th century unique in this. Imagine a medieval king (who is absolutely certain that he has G-d's mandate on Earth but has no clue about economics and the real cost of things) trying to start a war or finance some harebrained scheme of his, with the exchequer empty. So why not invent charges of treason against a few rich nobles, make them shorter by a head, and confiscate their assets? Or maybe blackmail them (excuse me, I meant to say whitemale them) into giving generously by pointing out that He the Lord is the only thing that stands between them and the pitchforks. (Just a metaphor, of course - not that that's ever happened...) BO and the Obamites have the advantage of trying to consume the richest country in the world, so it will take decades, maybe a century before, as a last desperate measure, they desperately start sucking the marrow out of our very bones. Having personally known the economic, political and above all moral and ethical chaos that ensues in a socialist country, I submit that stopping the proces here and now must be the highest priority. |
