Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Bobos in Paradise, indeed

Stanford University update, at Driscoll. This is all on their parents' hard-earned nickel, of course, but I suppose children must be children until reality makes them grow up.


Mandatory military service, as in Israel, might help, though.

I like the mandatory military idea. Many people I have spoken with where I am from agree. Yet they could be biased because they are all from the FT. Knox area like me...

That would be a MAJOR Problem for the military, who currently weeds out those individuals (such as the hippies referred to in the article) who just would not fit in with any semblance of military discipline. Why foist more idiots on an institution that will more than likely have to soon deal with the fallout of the repeal of the "don't ask, don't tell" policy?

I believe it is a BAD idea to force the DoD to implement controversial social policy during the middle of a war on "Radical Islam" that many of our citizens still don't believe we're fighting.

But the troops understand what they're fighting for (and against), which is why they are re-enlisting in record numbers, g*d bless 'em!
