We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
As Insty notes, it's happening all over the country, and I see no public push for this except from the politicians, who of course are wiser than us foolish little people who don't know what is best for us.
Just out of curiosity, where'd you get the quote that " the public protests about government medicine only reinforce his determination to pass it"
Since I live close enough to Austin, I'd love to have the facts available to make him eat those words.
In a report on the event, the Austin American-Statesman's Gardner Selby published this statement from Rep. Doggett on his political opponents at the meeting:
"This mob, sent by the local Republican and Libertarian parties, did not come just to be heard, but to deny others the right to be heard. And this appears to be part of a coordinated, nationwide effort. What could be more appropriate for the "party of no" than having its stalwarts drowning out the voices of their neighbors by screaming "just say no!" Their fanatical insistence on repealing Social Security and Medicare is not just about halting health care reform but rolling back 75 years of progress. I am more committed than ever to win approval of legislation to offer more individual choice to access affordable health care. An effective public plan is essential to achieve that goal."
I can not find even a trace of planned public meetings, town halls, or appearances other than private Party functions being attended by our four despicables here in Maine while they are on their paid vacations.
Is is so hard to understand that the populace is fed up with their govt and the policies they are trying to shove down our throats? No one mandates to me what to do. I read all I can to make a just and morally right decision. How dare this man infer we are sent by the etc al political parties. Spits at his lack of intelligence and morales.
