Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, July 21. 2009Tues. morning linksImage above from Iowahawk, of course I heard on the radio news today "The US is the only of the advanced industrial nations without government medicine." I wondered "What's wrong with that?" No NHS, Please. We're Americans. The O's Green Jobs Czar: We stole stuff. Another honest fellow in DC. Statistics on the sun and sunspots. I'm not dead yet. Via Insty:
Does dying of a heart attack on the tennis court qualify as "dignified"? I think it should, but it does rudely inconvenience the remaining three - assuming it's doubles.
The demographic death of Japan The Great Uniter. (h/t, Driscoll) Wilkinson on Peter Singer on medical care rationing The AMA betrays its profession. Civil servants cannot be professionals because a key part of being a "professional" is being beholden to your own conscience and judgement, not outisde forces. Another Sen. Dodd update. Just the usual sleazy, lying, greedy pol. Good example of why Conservatism sucks right now. George Will on why it ain't smart to soak the rich The O is slipping faster on key issues. Duh. Guy is an amateur, and his issues are nuts. Corzine is gonna lose the election. He is dead meat, but nobody can fix NJ's mess. The WH hides the budget mess. Wait 'til everybody's on vacation. From Front Page:
Watch out, NYH-Presbyterian, Mass General, and Mayo Clinic. Via Viking: Large urban teaching hospitals - including hospitals that are the biggest engines of the Boston economy - are facing the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars under national health care reform as rural lawmakers on Capitol Hill wage a fight to win more federal cash for their local institutions.

Having experienced both Britains NHS and the American system I can see the good and bad in both. The growth in the Govt health system of such things as gay lesbian etc outreach workers for the Somali,Bangladeshi etc community is the deal killer for me.Once Govt gets its hands on the controls medicine and health becomes secondary to social engineering and other leftist confections.
time for a lighter more upbeat post on anything........these morning links are beginning to read like a 24 hour news channel. where is your sense of humor NJ?
Zero's having another presser tomorrow. Pre-screened questions and telepromter answers. He's getting tiresome.
opie ... remember that old saw about 'killing the messenger' who brings bad news? What's going on right now in this country is a massive societal upheaval of standards and future aims. News Junkie is the messenger, in this case, reporting as accurately as he can. We folks out here in the battlefields are the ones who have to get bloodied in the battle if we want to change the direction we're skidding in.
Hard to describe this in a humorous way, somehow. Marianne Hi Marianne! I'm so glad you're back. I read your trials with your guru and router, and I'm wondering if that's the problem. I can access everything through Safari but MF. It comes and goes, and Buddy is still denied. We're all on Comcast. Nonetheless, I will try messing with my router to see if that helps.
I like Opie's suggestion. I also agree with you, but I think most of us get 'bloodied' on other sites and come here for relief. I remember threads so funny on this blog that I couldn't sleep after laughing so long and so hard. I'm not belittling any of the host's efforts, but a pall seems to have settled on the farm, and god knows we all need a romp in the hay to cheer us up during this most awful of times. By the way, if you want to get depressed, go to Drudge or memeorandum and just read the headlines. :( ` We have been blocking viruses which have been assaulting our comments from a number of peoples' pcs. Not their faults.
We are automatically blocking any machines which generate over 100 comments/hr, via their viruses. Maybe Buddy's has one. BD,
Do you know which computers/commenters you are blocking? That is, can you tell which generate the viruses? I have a MAC, so that would not be me generating viruses. How troublesome either way. Is it the same problem that makes Maggie's crash every so often? Good luck.... I'm sure it's a drag. ` http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/07/20/democrats-want-to-teach-you-to-die-with-dignity/
Section 1233 of H.R. 3200. The section, titled “Advanced Care Planning Consultation” requires senior citizens to meet at least every 5 years with a doctor or nurse practitioner to discuss dying with dignity. What's next? Elderly concentration camps? Call your representatives today. Mongol ... elderly concentration camps? We already have those. We call them 'assisted living' homes. They're storage units for those elderly who are still inconsiderate enough to be walking around, albeit slowly.
No ... I suspect that the "civilian militia" of brownshirts that the Administration is organizing will be used as hit squads for eliminating the elderly who are too stubborn to agree to the "civilian counseling" groups who urge us to "die with dignity." Marianne You and your better half stay healthy and keep on drinking that Dago red wine. : )
Stay in your house as long as you can. Let that Taurus do the talking for you when the brownshirts turn up. Regarding the link "Why Conservatism sucks right now" at Rick Moran's RightWing Nuthouse: Moran is hardly a credible conservative. From what I read of his website prior to the past presdiential election, Moran is an Obama-supporting self-described 'Libertarian" ala Althouse. Or maybe he's a conservative like Brooks, Frum, and Noonan are conservative. In any case, his taking one man's extreme opinions and radical ideas and equating them with a conservative philosophy of governance is either idiotic, ill-informed. or dishonest. If you're seeking trenchant commentary on conservatism, you'd be better served reading Stacy McCain, Mark Levin, Thomas Sowell, Hugh Hewitt, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Ace of Spades HQ, Hot Air, or any number of blogs and websites before you dip into the defamatory nether region of Moran's invective.
