Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Heading towards Carter Country

From a harshly critical op-ed by Matt Welch in the WaPo:



What the new president has not quite grasped is that the American people understand both irony and cognitive dissonance. Instead, Obama has mistaken his personal popularity for a national predilection toward emergency-driven central planning. He doesn't get that Americans prefer the slower process of building political consensus based on reality, and at least a semblance of rational deliberation rather than one sky-is-falling legislative session after another.

Look it, the dems are making a raid on our treasury and our country.....and they have to be quick while they have the power and the voters are not strong enough (or intelligent enough)to oppose them. It is like watching a pirate movie where they rape and pillage, but, in this case, it is my beautiful country.

My biggest concern now is that Obama and Congress will turn just enough to slip the noose in '10 and '12. GOP has golden opportunity here to marginalize Democrats for a generation or 2 if they only play their cards right. First objective is to take back Congress in '10, and the White House in '12. And will Hillary be ready to gear up for '12 after the mid-terms in '10? Stay
tuned, it's gonna get very interesting if we don't all go broke in the meanwhile.
