We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Says it all

Today, your medical care is between you and your Doc, and sometimes with an insurance company. Either a straight line, or a simple triangle.


Mr. Brady at New Majority plots the organizational chart of the Dem plan. The extent of the proposed bureaucracy is indeed baffling, if not insane. Who is in charge? Certainly not you, the paying patient (because you won't be paying: your Doc will be working for the government), and definitely not your Doctor:




Insty reports that the bill essentially eliminates Medicare:



ENDING MEDICARE? “Obama’s health care proposal is, in effect, the repeal of the Medicare program as we know it. The elderly will go from being the group with the most access to free medical care to the one with the least access.” So why aren’t we hearing more about this? “The interest groups that usually speak up for the elderly, particularly AARP, are in Obama’s pocket, hoping to profit from his program by becoming one of its vendors. Just as they backed Bush’s prescription drug plan because they anticipating profiting from it, so they are now helping Obama gut the medical care of their constituents.”



Who can understand all this crap?

It seems to me the patients and providers can sneak out of the picture altogether and work on a fee for service system.

Who are you , and what have you done with Luther McLeod? Do you work for Goldman Sachs? What kind of effin chart is this? I see three letters up there that scare the bejesus out of me. I, R, and S.

Do you still get your paper in the morning without pajamas, or are you in a speedo. I ain't payin no more money to noboddie anymore. You better not work for GM Sachs cause I'm paranoid!!! : )

Looking at sheep all day would, on the face of it, seem boring. But if one turns it around on occasion, there's a whole different allure.

It is I, that McLeod of which you speak. Believe you me... the closest I have have come to Goldman Sachs is through that brother-in-law of mine who managed to destroy my assets while gaining himself an early retirement. Odd how that worked out.

I.R.S.? Irredeemable rude sonsofbitches. Yes.

And their presence is absolutely required for the future Obama world. They'll bleed us like a stuck pig. And then want more.

Good idea, hold on to your money until it's worth something or, lamentably, nothing.

Paper gathering is sans briefs... as long as it is dark. Who's to know other than the doves.

I don't work for anybody... just ideals, which seem to be disappearing before my eyes.

Actually it's far more complex than this chart shows.
I still have the chart done for HillaryCare.
This new chart leaves out all the decision and rule loops, which increase its magnitude of complexity many many times over.
Who understands it?
Actually no one. At best, and at worst, it creates little niches of deep expertise on how to manage, manipulate and game small segments, while making such "experts" much $, while leaving the grosser interactions and the effects of the whole, not to mention the ability to innovate or repair, impossible to navigate, thus making it even moreso a runaway source of confusion and profits for insiders as time goes by.
Who suffers?
Anyone trying to navigate it, especially when their own life or livlihood is at stake.

If you want a good education on systems, Systemantics by John Gall, on why things aren't working very well.

Unfortunately it can't decide whether it's another Stress Analysis of a Strapless Evening Gown or not, but the serious points are great.

I have the 1976 version. It's gotten much much bigger in later editions.

My favorite paragraph:

Orwell's Inversion: the confusion of input and output:

Hard to believe how the national mood has changed in six months. The Dems are overreaching as they always do. People are starting to wake up to what's going on, as demonstrated by the tea parties.

Luther, I used to gather my papers that way until I did it the morning after I had a motion detector installed. Rather surprised to be in the spotlight.
