We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
My biggest concern with Government Run health care is that the government will run it and run you. That is, your life will be controlled from cradle to grave. You will eat a certain way…or else. You will do certain things…or else. And the government will have every motivation to force you down a path.
Ultimately, this is a civil liberties issue. Some people say that not having health care for all is shameful in such a wealthy country. Shameful is the notion of a bureaucrat deciding whether you live or die based on the metrics of a chart. That’s shameful. And that would be our future. It is a future I don’t want to see.
Just look at the big government, totalitarian groups that are for this mess. It should give you an idea of what you’d have to look forward to in the future.
This recession more mild that 1982. All my kids have jobs, including my youngest soon-to-be HS grad who has a summer acting job in NYC - and my dau-in-law-to-be just nailed a good one in NYC too. That makes 3 working in NYC. Good on them. All young folks need to spend some time there, I believe.
55% of Americans want to abolish affirmative action, while 36% support it. Given the great strides minorities have made in the last 45 years under the 1964 Civil Rights Act, most people believe it is time to take the training wheels off.
It was interesting to read the website made by couples who had been to see the doctor and read their stories. Published earlier this week. Seems to be a hell of a lot of confusion about what he mostly did. Deliver dead babies mostly, with calcified brains - of God's great doing, not his. Jammy is drawing stupid parallels regards the mourning business.
The Whitehouse is command center of the Islamic hordes only second to King Abdullah who's House of Saud picked up the boy's high education and now, has made Husseino it's personal bitch with a golden Muhammadan necklace.
Southern folks spell slow y-a-n-k-e-e.
When we takes our sweet time we spell it c-h-e-e-s-e e-a-t-e-r.
Oh well--the liberals in Britain still have enough time to rig the elections--just like they did here in WA and IL and MN and?
Not to worry--the liberals will not be removed ever again--they are determined to stay in control no matter what the price to liberty, democracy, or integrity, or the next generation. IT IS THEIR TURN and they BY GOD are gonna keep it--until we start to put them in jail for something or other--just like they do the resisters on the conservative side!
Re: the return to natural parenting. I rececently asked my three kids, all now in their 20's, what their happiest childhood memories were. They all immediately recalled times playing with their friends, w/ no grownups around. None of them mentioned any of the activities I had dutifully shepherded them to.
Just finished voting. Choice of 20 candidates and parties fielded. Torn between UKIP and the BNP but since it only concerns European elections in London and not local, I voted UKIP. Overall in this country my preference would be for some proper Conservatives with a heavy lean towards classical liberal without the complete shoulder shrug towards proper conservative values in decency, law and order. Fat chance here or in America.
I feel sorry for the doctor who died. I read the website too PJ via The Times. What a good kind man he was. Such awful harrowing circumstances for those good couples. I don't get the comparison either. It's perfectly easy to pay respects to all those who work in difficult circumstances equally without such politics but the line drawn in these instances is flippant and pandering. And ignorant I suspect. So it goes on both sides.
I doubt they push quitting smoking too vehemently. A carton of cigarettes cost about $10.17. Add the taxes and a carton costs $55.00. That's a lot of jack down the drain if everyone quits. Win-Lose-or-Draw on that. Maybe they should tax fat people by the pound. We could rid ourselves of the deficit in a year.
Wilkinson sounds like yet another brilliant guy who has probably never had one of those classified briefings that the Nixonians allegedly use to flatter everybody else. Does he think Obama is keeping Gitmo open because he was flattered by the attention paid to him in the morning briefings by the CIA director and an NSC staffer?
If I had a dime for every time somebody in the blogosphere spewed off about some complicated subject they have no experience in... well, I'd be the only guy in the blogosphere with a working business model. Um, and I'd be wicked rich.
