Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Friday, May 15. 2009More farm pron - or is it True Love?Everybody is showing this one, so we might as well too. The old guy is shameless, isn't he? A good thing he prefers elephant-style to missionary style or her riders might be in a heap of trouble. She is a cute lil' thing, if a bit on the heavy side. They both seem to be smiling, and that's what matters.

Funniest thing about this picture is it looks as if the trainer/driver let the tourist - in the wife-beater and sneakers take his spot for the stroll. The guy in the hat is boinking his charge on the head as if: "You fool, stop it this instant, I say!" He's also probably thinking 'This is the last time I let some American tourista talk me out of my perch.' ha ha ha.
By the way - Elephants don't move once they're mounted. The phallus does the moving as it has its own muscle source. (You get tidbits of knowledge like that when you've been married to a veterinarian. :) ` Meta, I blame this entire situation on you . If you had not given away that cute little elephant chasing a "blue" ball this would never have happened. She got resold to a tourist company somewhere in south east Asia, and is now getting boinked.
Have a good weekend. You big bella, and watch out for that sneaky wisteria vine you have!! I know this all looks like great fun, but I have read that a male elephant in Musth (that's male heat) is one of the most dangerous creatures around. You don't want to mess with them. That's why I wonder if this photo was shopped.
True about a male elephant in musth, but that condition produces very obvious symptoms. Bull elephants in musth are confined until it passes. However, bulls can apparently mate when not in musth, so that's not a good reason to doubt this photo.
I thought that only applied to African elephants - one reason we only ride Asian ones.
The people on the rear elephant look photo-shopped over the background. Yes they are, Bird Dog. And they're so cute while they are, they make female humans lose all good judgment.
Marianne George Orwell wrote a short story about an elephant in musth. The elephant trampled a bunch of villagers and went on a rampage. Orwell must have witnessed it, but I don't recall how it ended. ...too lazy to Google it. I think they had to kill the elephant. Anyway, I don't think that photo was photoshopped. If anything, they trained the elephant to do that for the funny pictures. Probably the same elephant that performed such for President and Laura Bush.
That gives new meaning for ridden hard and put away wet. (That's for you, KRW. :) ` hahaha. I know... it's just the type of thing you'd say. I wanted to beat you to the punch.
Google: "Shooting and Elephant" by George Orwell. Click on the second link - it's the whole short story. Damn, it's great. Really telling about British control, the value of human life.... and Orwell is the one who shoots the elephant, but not until the last paragraph do you get it. Yay. I love good stuff..... Been quite some time since I've read GO. That was very good.
"I perceived in this moment that when the white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys. He becomes a sort of hollow, posing dummy, the conventionalized figure of a sahib. For it is the condition of his rule that he shall spend his life in trying to impress the "natives," and so in every crisis he has got to do what the "natives" expect of him." I feel like I've read something similar recently but I can't put my finger on exactly what/where. Ah, it just hit me. Donald Kagan's lecture on ancient Greek history (via Academic Earth) regarding how the Spartans were held back by having to keep resources occupied with keeping the Helots in line.

Gives new meaning to 'freedom'. What is freedom? It is free from others' expectations.
I've always said the value of money is that it gives you freedom from other people. I must have been channeling Orwell because you can substitute 'tyrant' with just about anything that commands the expectations of authority. I'm really happy you read it. I get knocked out by the written word.... I'd like to have known Orwell. He was haunted but not by his own existence. A man of reason..... `

You will notice that the "handler" on the offending elephant is not sitting up front, but rather is sitting in the basket; you can see that he is the "handler" because he is the one with the pointy stick, he is also wearing cheap flip flops. The handler on the elephant in front is sitting up front, has a pointy stick and is wearing similar flip flops--the tourists are wearing better shoes (wouldn't you?) and they don't have the pointy stick!
A Thai lady I know informs me that elephants are not this brazen, but require privacy for their intimate interludes. She claims this was probably Photoshopped. It may come from Chiang Mai -- and who knows how living in servitude to humans may have changed the elephants' attitudes? IIRC they have no privacy whatsoever in that environment, so...they adapt. Modesty is set aside when it is no longer practical.
If that was photoshopped, how they get that elephant to stand up like that? Tell him to beg for a cookie?
Go to YouTube and type in 'elephant sex'. You will find multiple examples that elephants have no discernment when it comes to reproductive duty much less a romantic desire for privacy. ` Question?? Would Theo call this "elephant totty?"
