We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world -- the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does -- comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.
I believe we all are a creation of God, and each of us were given talents and gifts...some just a few, some many. When we use those gifts and talents it glorifies God. Sometimes Human Pride says, 'look what I did', and we begin to worship the worldly things produced by those gifts. Always keep God as the treasure in your life trying to please Him. (not easy-we're human)-- Do we enjoy driving that new driving that new Mercedes, or rolling out your flying machine on a sunny day, or providing for your loved ones ? of course we do...He wants us to enjoy the fruits of our labor, as long as we acknowledge Him with a attitude of gratitude.
All religions are man-made and are doomed to be less than perfect. I don't worship a church (= people) or a religion.
There is a lot of complaining about textbooks and the rewriting of history. I agree... people should complain. An example of the rewriting, dumbing-down of English is apparent in "Beowulf" - reffed on another post. Why do people not become outraged when Bible translations go for the 60 I.Q. and insult the very readers by telling them not to respect the very earth God created to succor the 'man' he created to be the stewards of that earth?
What wide spot? "Unfortunately mentally challenged" people? gack.... I actually said that PC phrase. Well, if it is for those unfortunates, they're being lied to and tricked. We're going to devolve so far, Planet of the Apes is going to look good to those of us left with a spark of brain power.
And it isn't 'Dave'. It's me. Read that book, Buddy Larsen. You know which one.
We think that we are more sophisticated than our grandfathers. But we are less sophisticated, by far. Our descent into darkness is best demonstrated by listing old artists beside new artists; by listing old statesmen beside new statesmen; by comparing the lives of our grandparents to our own. The sociologist notices that more children are born outside of marriage, that epidemic cheating has taken our schools by the throat, that we have incompetence in business and government, that we find banality and ignorance on all sides. What conclusion can he draw? The powers and advantages of modern life havenít made us worthy. They merely serve to amplify and accelerate our unworthiness.
