Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, April 21. 2009Tuesday morning linksIt's been cold, rain and stormy, noisy wind here. "Feels like 34," weatherman said yesterday. We are eager for some global warming - solar, anthropogenic, cow farted, or otherwise. A new book of Mark Twain's unpublished work. One quote:
Bummer: Online shopping taxes are on the way. Government = Greed. Dems promise that gummint medical care will deny you treatment. Duh. Kinky gerontophiliacs? Is it legal? Piracy: There's been lots of it since the Barbary pirates. Sin City on the Tigris: Baghdad getting back to normal. Ban Ki Moon annoyed with Ahmadinejad. Delegates walked out. The truth behind the Maersk Alabama story. Spengler outs himself to be...David P. Goldman, of First Things Miss California (on left) is a gay marriage skeptic. Will Wikinson defends gay marriage on libertarian grounds. It's about time we added The Other McCain to our blogroll Cuts of $100 million? A joke. Who is he kidding? (Probably lots of people who can't add.) What's the state of manufacturing in the US? Not too bad. I'm with Jules: this is the sort of reporting I want from the NYT Politics and public pension shakedowns

"Cuts of a 100 million"He can start by lowering the thermostat at the White House from 72 to 64, and get rid of his wife's personal make up artist.
There are still a few Hard (nut) Cases, and Dragons in Cow Hampshire. Those "Friendly" people are always telling me what to think, and what to do. I don't like them much. I always decline novacaine and it tortures the dentist, who is an extreme lefty and can't bear the thought of pain.
Ohh goody ... Texas is on the "here be dragons" list. It's a badge of honor, guys, to be dissed by Napolitano, an extraordinarily dense woman, ill-equipped to determine friend from foe.
Marianne P. S. That beautiful young woman, Miss California, is wise beyond her years -- and chosen career. Got to be some good parenting in her youth. That young woman was called a 'stupid bitch' and a 'c --' by one of the judges for her answer about gay marriage. It was all over the news this morning. It is just disgusting what is happening to free speech/opinions in this country.
` That's despicable. That judge should have been fired. And then pole-axed.
Google Fox News and find his name. He has a blog. It's all over his blog unless he's taken it down.
` I can't access his blog from where I am. But here's the basic story below. He supposedly apologized later and offered to 'have coffee' with Miss California.
He's still an ass in my opinion. Though the spam filter appears to be picky this morning. Not sure if I can get this through. Oh well, had to take the link out. I said it before and I'll say it again. I liked the gays a heck of a lot more when they were quiet and still in the closet.
Now they have become militant, took over public education, and never shut the hell up. Was at Theo's the other day and saw a picture of San Francisco's thin blue line. Female Police Chief, and two transgender officer's,one male turned female, and one female turned male. Switch hitter's , what a crew! I heard a clip from the judge who said those nasty things about Miss California - he sounded gay. I thought about it, and who else but a fine male queen would say such about a real beauty queen.
NO apologies to gays. Shut up and so will we. ` Perez Hilton is a caddy flaming homosexual. How he was selected a judge of female beauty baffles me.
The makers of that map really need better information. I see a tiger, a griffin, maybe a wyvern, a purple insuffera-bull and one dragon. Whoever wrote "Here be Dragons" is sorely mistaken.
Also, the dragon and the tiger are both in the wrong place. I'm poking some fun at the map, yes, but there is a group that approximates it, does have an army and isn't afraid to use it. The trouble is that they only use rattan swords, are completely apolitical and spend more time researching the Middle Ages than being a threat to the nation. If anyone cares ... It's the The Society for Creative Anachronism. The tiger is the symbol of the East Kingdom, which covers USA: eastern Pennsylvania, eastern New York, Delaware, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and parts of CANADA: Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland. The dragon is the symbol of the MidRealm, which covers Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Scott County in Iowa, Kentucky (except the southwest counties) and parts of CANADA: Essex County and Windsor in Ontario. I like the map, anyway. That was a great article in the NYT, but who needs them? We've been getting great coverage, like that, from Michael Yon for years.
I dunno about the map, but here in the Republic of Harrisville (Western Pennsylvania) there definitely "Be Dragons!" Most of PA too, outside of Philly and City of Pittsburgh. Kudos to Texas of course for leading the way, but PA's "Got your six"

Big Media doesn’t always lie. Despite the transformation from “reporting” to “journalism”, fabricating people and events is still frowned upon. More insidious that outright lies—which can be crushed by genuine reporting
