Took two years of Spanish in college. Treated each Mexican I met with courtesy and kindness. Now, I lay in bed at night wondering how close the next gun shots will be. My bed in a nice middle class suburban development. We have some African/Americans (Navy). We have some Indian families (Microsoft). We have some Easter Europeans (wives). We all look after each other--neighborhood block watch--speed bumps for the kids to play safely. But. BUT. Just across the busy road from the entrance to our little community numerous cheap and quick apartment blocks have gone up. The largest group occupying those apartments in a "Sanctuary City" are newly arrived Mexicans. The influx has happened in the past seven years. Quick and dirty ladies and gentlemen. They are here. They are not legal. AND they don't give a DAMN about my courtesy, or the generosity of my nation which turns the other cheek. They steal cars at night, they shoot guns at night, they cruise through this working class neighborhood during the day looking for homes which are easy to break into. Those are not Norwegian immigrants. Those are not Jewish immigrants. NO. They are only one group up here folks--illegal Mexican immigrants.
