Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I have to select Hayek as the best link. Very funny. And perhaps something that we should all be doing to ourselves, no matter gender, a little gut check as it were.

"The Indulgence of Absolutism" is a good article and points to the basic mistakes of the Republicans in the last election. We failed to remember that in a democracy no one gets exactly what they want. It's better to aim for that platform which holds the least number of things you don't want, and the most that you do.

My stupid cousins who deserted their conservative ideals and were dumb enough to get seduced by the Great Bloviator and vote for him, are watching their savings fade away. And they deserve it. Because they forgot to vote for the best alternative, even though he wasn't the perfect alternative.

Now we're all poorer. And I hope some of us are wiser.
