Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

That is easily done: High Schools hand them out every June to anybody with the brains and foresight to show up. Why don't people live within their means, and save for a rainy day? A teed-off Sowell. Man finds images of D-Day rehearsals The 11 Most Expensive Catastrophes in History Remind me again - what's wrong with bottled water? And what's wrong with using water too? Unless there's a local drought. Anybody hear about the water cycle? It all returns. Our drinking water is old dinosaur pee (which is why I stick with beer instead). Not to worry about the environment. Sweden will save us all! The results of 10 years of socialism in Britain The Leftyism of academia is probably underestimated Why aren't environmentalists celebrating the drop in consumption? Dems getting worried about Obama. Spaghetti and Saucy.
Beats Newman's Best. But can you find it at Costco? Mr. Sowell is being far too sensible. Self-reliance has been out of fashion with bleeding hearts and government for years. I like him.
By the time we've bailed out the banks, and bailed out the foreclosed homeowners, the taxpayers will have to be bailed out and we can all be victims together. The power play will have succeeded. Liked Sowell's rant a lot. Reminded me of my grandmother. Agree with it. But the ads on his site were so obtrusive that I won't go back. Is it just me, or does anybody else avoid sites with so many?
The ads I really hate are those ones that flash about 10 times a second telling you that you've won, you've won, you've won. Ugh.
Yesterday's market rally is what I call a broker's rally.
They will yell and scream that the market has hit bottom, and there are some real good buys out there. They have to feed their kids too! No sellie, no money. Shit, if someone gave me as much money as Citi has received, my flunky company (myself) would show a profit too!! Perception is reality. "Remind me again - what's wrong with using water ...?"
Here are some reasons: http://ask.metafilter.com/64686/Tell-me-to-turn-my-sink-off (Thanks for linking to my blog in that sentence, BTW, even if we might disagree.) OK. I am a skeptic about all alarmisms. I like long, hot showers.
Bird Dog; Your system is being compromised by someone with administrative access. You sign on states that our email address will not be disclosed but if you will look at the Tues Morning Links, comment 1.1.1.1 by an M. E. Froelich discloses all but a few of the letters of my email address. There is no one on the site other than someone with administrative ability to look at those fields or someone granted access to your system. I have an idea who it is but it's just an idea. However this is not a confidence builder that Maggies Farm is controlling it's site in a responsible manner. I would appreciated it if you would look into this and I would caution you not to use a certain outside advisor you have previously used to tweak certain aspects of your system. This person is very very knowledgeable on computers so there is a serious question as to how far he is willing to go in doing damage to any of your contributors. Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated
A dorm room philosophy, namely love of bullshitting.
There's a fine academic essay on it by Harry Frankfurt, that's intermittently online. It turned into a book and the publishers are very hardnosed. Let's see if Google finds it. Ha, the publishers themselves put out the opening paragraphs http://press.princeton.edu/titles/7929.html The conclusion was that bullshit is characterized by not actually caring whether what you say is true or not. It's differentiated from other kinds of public humbug, say where you want people to think you are the kind of person who has deep thoughts on memorial day, and so forth. Uummm.... with the absents of facial expressions,
body language and voice inflections...maybe some were bamboozled...for 'the love of bullshitting'.. ..I need a shower. |
Related to our first link of this morning, Focus on Outcome, we see this from Dr. Clouthier: We need to redefine merit...because standardized testing is racist. How come I always thought that merit was supposed to be the solution to bias?
