Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

You can bring a bowl of rice and then a glass of water too And fate is setting up the chessboard while death rolls out the dice. Anyone for tennis, wouldn't that be nice? Another political rhyme, this time a limerick:
Said the beauteous Magda Lupescu As she rushed to Rumania's rescue. 'Tis a wonderful thing To be under a King Is democracy better -- I esk you. Just for a help, Rumania's king of the moment was King Carol, and Time Magazine described Magda as King Carol's "great good friend." Those were the days when certain standards of decorum were observed in print, and Hollywood stars didn't routinely appear pantless in the popular press. Marianne Bird Dog,
You and others here at MF may want to keep an eye on the Capitalist March in September. http://www.cmcapitalist.com/ I referenced it near the end of the thread on Saturday morning. Obama and his reliance on a teleprompter raises many questions.
Just how well educated is Obama? While we know he went to Columbia and Harvard, we have no idea as to how he performed academically. Like the rest of his past, the records are sealed. I also have my doubts about whether or not he actually writes his speeches or if someone else does. If someone else does, I'd like to know who it is. George Soros? Obama speaks so poorly when he is not plugged in that it makes you wonder. The loudest complaint has been issued from Michelle, The First Dominatrix. She is upset at The Øne's installation of a pair of teleprompters at the foot of the First Bed.
I assure you, he does not write, and apparently does not even have much time to practice, his own speeches. The teleprompter says bark like a dog, he barks like a dog. Teleprompter says meow, he says, "Um, er, meow." Ironic that the maker of his empty suits, HartMarx, went bankrupt right after Election Day. The triumph of the Fabians in England, and what we face today- This link is not correct.
What is with the cops hiding in their vehicles while muslim a-holes kick their lights and mirrors in? Swedish cops give pansies a bad name.
Barrett ... You ask "just how well educated is Obama?" Yes, he did go to Harvard and Columbia University. So, by the way, did Caroline Kennedy, whose behavior when she was being "considered" for the vice presidency was strange, rude and kind of spacey. So, by the way, did I, and as a Midwestern girl of modest means I tried to absorb all I could of the intellectual feast that was offered to me.
And therein lies the anomaly. It's crucial to the end product, the educated person, how well he, or she allows himself to be educated. If he/she is smart enough, and humble enough, to pay close attention, he can receive genuine riches, as you undoubtedly know. From the way you write, and the things you say, I would deduce that you have a first class education. And you paid attention, and extrapolated from the facts/concepts you were given to learn even more, and move on to new horizons. In the end, the final analysis, we all educate ourselves. Or not. Marianne MM,
Thank you for the compliment. I was fortunate to have very bright parents. I have also tried to be around people who know more than I do whenever possible. Growing up, we often debated the current issues of the day over dinner. As an aside, I remember bringing home one girl for dinner. After a particularly zesty conversation, one of siblings asked her what she thought. Needless to say, that was the end of that relationship, which was a good thing. Learning is a lifelong endeavor and one of the things that makes life interesting. Regardless of one's interests, there is more than any one of us can learn and understand. And to think that knowledge, or should I say information, is doubling every seven years or so. I am trying to teach my children that life and learning go hand in hand. That life is about how much you do and not about how little. After all, the most interesting people you meet are the ones who have done many things. Maybe one day I'll get lucky and meet you too. Like you, I have serious doubts about Obama and his vaunted education. I do not see an intellectually curious person. I see a rigid, dogmatic ideologue. That may be why he is so poor when speaking without props. Best regards, There was a young man from Belize
who let loose such a powerful sneeze that onlookers went pale as it rose to a gale and blew down several nearby oak trees It use to be California was considered the state of fruits and nuts.
