Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The Big Rock Candy Mountain

Our link this morning to the "Make it rain candy, Mr. Obama" bit reminded me of what should be one of the Left's theme songs. Here's the great Burl Ives:

That's the Harry McClintock version of that song ("where the handouts grow on trees...")

Generally, the raw-er a folk song sounds the more I like it.

REM's version of Roger Miller's King of the Road is a good example.

One of those songs you hear as a kid and sing along to and only when you are older realize how radical it was. Great stuff.
