Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, February 17. 2009NY's new Sen. Kirsten GillibrandShe's a Dartmouth gal, and she keeps rifles around the house. I think she's a Maggie's Farm sort of senator (despite being D-NY). The self-protective instinct seems sadly lacking in the flabby Western world these days. Plus she has a nice, honest smile. If you get immunized for Polio, you should just as reasonably immunize yourself against the bad guys by being armed. Both dangers are rare, but can really hurt you. Somebody made her move those guns, though.

So if a bad guy broke into her house she'd have to haul the gun case out from under the bed, unlock it, get the gun out, find the ammo and load the gun before she could confront him. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Only two. Who cares. She must have known that someone was going to squeal on her . Why volunteer that information in an interview.
BD, I think she looks like an axe murderer. Which is a good thing. I would go drinking with her and that crazy bartender any day. It takes a person who's not quite right in the head to recognize other wackos. Joyce wundered why Missy Gillibrand needs two rifles.
Two rifles come in handy when one blonde chicklette fishes Montana from both sides of a river, me thinks. I was skulking around my house the other night with a loaded shotgun in my hand. Some pranksters were banging on doors and causing trouble around 1 A.M. sheeesh. Scary. I didn't know which door they hammered on, so I had to go from door to door and turn on lights not knowing what I'd see. What was strange was the initial adrenaline surge faded away as I picked up the shotgun and forced myself to move. I can't describe the state I was in, but it was trance-like and deadly.
The only thing, I had on a short, natty little yellow cotton bathrobe. Not fitting for Meta the Murderess. ugh. :( ` Meta, I hope those two pit bulls you have gave you advanced warning.
I have two dogs, Lilly, a Jack Russell and Ramona,1/2 lab 1/4 pit bull 1/4 rottweiler. Bark at any noise outside, good security systems. I never forgot what Habu said about guns. When you pull a weapon, it's out for one reason and that's to kill. Good for you, in having that "trance-like and deadly " state. I do hope that the pit bulls were chomp-in at the bit to get outside. Stay safe una bella. You big precious, muffin, murderess. : ) Jappy, I don't want to go through that again. I forgot to mention that at the time I was walking-tall, I did not know they were pranksters. I flagged down some cops who were driving around and they told me they'd gotten a couple of calls. So, I was afraid for sure. No, the darling pits were not at home. Where my son is, they are. However, far fiercer and far more deadly because of his bad breath, my Yorkie, Fergus, stood by after the initial scare. As in stood by, he hid under the covers by the book I was reading and quivered. Little bastard.
Yipes... I like your big pony. What a mix! I bet she's precious. Mixed breeds are wonderful. Pits come in all variations, some better, some not. One of my son's pits is too darling for words. The other,- he needs to grow up and will this summer when he gets cop training like his older brother. "Ramona"? I SO love that name I can't stand it. clap, clap, clap.... :) I'm quit sure I would have killed. No question, in fact. My ex is taking me this weekend to get an automatic shotgun and a handgun. I have a Glock but it's too much for me. I want the Judge like Marianne has. Jappy, Gimme back that armored outfit I wore on our first date. ` Machine Gun Meta!
Sorry, I just had this vision of you letting off a round and that robe coming open with the recoil. Hot women with guns! Be safe, Meta. (And by that I mean watch you muzzle control). Thanks, Jephnol. No telling what would have happened had I had to fire the shotgun, but I know the scoop. I was hunting with my boyfriend in high school and was sporting a double-barrel sawed-off shotgun when I came upon two snakes in the path. I got so excited I fired off both barrels without shouldering the gun properly. It raked up my side and from my right hip to my right elbow, I was black and blue and purple for weeks. To describe the damage to me, even my right breast was severely bruised. That was a hard lesson, and made even harder because I had to hide the wincing and agony from my parents.
As for that lovely Walmart, ten-year-old robe..... I imagine had I shot, it would have ended up thirty feet behind me. ew. How embarrassing. Make sure the first shot is a killing shot. ` When I was younger I was going outside one winter's morning to get the paper. I was wearing only a robe. As soon as I hit the icy steps I began to slip and to prevent going ass-over-tea-kettle I danced down the steps and the rob flew open revealing all I possessed to and elderly woman next door. She didn't die. Keep your gun.
"She didn't die." Nah, but she wished she did. She spent the rest of the day singing in her head, "HAA PEE NESS IS A WAARRMM GUNNN..... Pull my finger."
She had a good imagination as I'm sure the fear of falling and the icy temps prevented you from being locked and loaded. I think it's time to get offline. :} `

You might say, in such a cold climate, that I was going around half-cocked.
We live in Right-to-Carry state. I've tried at times to
encourage a couple lady friends to consider the required training necessary for the permit. At the risk of sounding sexist, it's sometimes difficult to generate much excitement when the topic of fire-arms,for self protection is mentioned. I explain that if a 2X4 needs to be cut,a circular-saw would be a tool to accomplish the task..be careful it could be dangerous if not used correctly. If a predator needs to be stopped, a proper tool is needed there also, of course Safety First. I'm thinking if those jumbo curlers and cold cream was part of Meta's bed-time ensemble, she probably could save the cost of an shell ;) oh. ow. Those days are long gone, and thank heavens. haha.
I agree with you about how strange it is that some people don't get the weapon thing. I've had the same conversations with women and I wonder to myself - 'What? Are you just going to let yourself be a victim?" I don't get that mentality. After the incident of the other night, a few people suggested a full-house alarm system. I said, "Nah. I want the pleasure of looking right at the intruder and shooting him." ` Here's Newsday (Long Is. - blue country) poll on the rifles:
"Guns OK? Do you feel comfortable with Sen. Kirstin Gillibrand owning rifles? I have no problem with it (7860 responses) 96.8% I don't care, but how does her husband feel? (55 responses) 0.7% Why does she need guns? (133 responses) 1.6% It's insensitive to gun violence victims (69 responses) 0.9% 8117 total responses (Results not scientific)" WELL - I guess GUN OWNERSHIP is NOT an issue to the electorate!! Gwynne ... Gun Ownership is certainly not an issue to the Texas state electorate. Our only problem is that since the election, shipments of ammunition to gun stores sell out almost as soon as they arrive. My husband had to go to two different stores the other day, and stand in line for half an hour, to get an additional supply of shotgun shells for our Taurus the Judge.
Marianne 410 ammo is often hard to find. Not that ammo is cheap or easy to find these days. With two wars on you get less bang for your buck.
Nevertheless, stock up. (It just makes sense). Stay safe, MM. (And by that I mean stay safe). Hi Marianne,
I'd guess you weren't buying #9 lo-brass skeet loads. Up here in lefty New England we just order by the case from Cabela's a cuppla months in advance and wait till they come -- how long will it be before the leftist totalitarian Obamessiahs who want the Republican Party "eliminated" take that away too ... I wouldn't champion her too much about her gun ownership. She will recant as soon as she starts to run for re-election (soon), if she still wants the job. If she doesn't, then no downstate vote=election loss.
Don't forget, Chuck Schumer (The other NY senator) has been an NRA member, just like Michael Moore. . . Politicians notice numbers like 96.8% approval of the guns in a newspaper of general distribution. Ayup, they notice. If not, we shove it in theyah faces. Ayup! (that's how People talk around heah)..
Ike Bub! We shua do. Ayuh. And we drop most of oua aas, like paak the caa. We also say things like, that stimulus bill was a mucka, that's right boy. Wicked fools ova theya in Washington. Ayuh.
Marianne,
Buy it online. Like I said it's usually hard to find .410 in stores, especially if you're looking for slugs or buckshot. Gwynne's got a good idea, but online is very easy. Check it out here: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ItemListing.aspx?catid=495 I've used them for .223 and they are safe, competively priced and efficient. Stock up. |
